The World Coordinates And Future Choices Of Disciplinary Construction In Chinese Universities

ince the promulgation and implementation of the "Double First-Class" construction policy,the discipline construction of Chinese universities has made great progress.However,what position it is in the international academic competition,what areas still have room for improvement,and how to carry out strategic layout in the future are still a series of issues to be clarified.This is not only related to the evaluation of the effectiveness of the first round of "Double First-Class" construction,but also affects the direction and process of building a powerful country in higher education.Based on this,this paper adopts the simple assignment method and conducts data statistics based on the 2017-2021 world-class subject rankings of the China Academy of Sciences.The results show that: in recent years,the discipline construction of Chinese universities has been quite effective,showing a progressive trend,currently ranking second in the world,and is expected to surpass the United States in 2030-2035.From the perspective of five major fields,Chinese universities have performed well in the field of engineering.In2020,they surpassed the United States and ranked first in the world;the fields of life science and science have become increasingly strong,ranking second and third in the world,but they are far behind the United States;Social science and medicine still need to make more efforts,temporarily ranking sixth and seventh in the world.Judging from the effectiveness of individual construction of colleges and universities,the discipline development of first-class universities and colleges is generally progressing,showing a clear head effect;the engineering disciplines of first-class discipline-building colleges and universities are developing strongly,and the cluster advantages are gradually emerging;The construction of characteristic and advantageous disciplines in colleges and universities can not be ignored more and more,and the development of these advantageous disciplines is also continuously providing new "power" for my country’s discipline construction clusters.The achievement of the above-mentioned discipline construction results is due to the promulgation and implementation of the "Double First-Class" policy,in which the great development in the field of engineering has driven the overall development of the discipline construction of Chinese universities and improved the global competitiveness of Chinese university disciplines.However,while achieving excellent construction results,the over-emphasis on the construction of science and engineering disciplines has also led to the phenomenon of "biased subjects" in other disciplines.In addition to the influence of previous key discipline construction policies,the problem of "identity solidification" in "double first-class" colleges and universities has gradually become appear.Therefore,in the future,the "double-first-class" construction should adhere to the balanced development strategy of disciplines,that is,implementing the integrated development of science and engineering,promoting the coordinated development of life sciences and medicine,adhering to the international dialogue concept of social sciences,forming the superior alliance of discipline construction,and further improving the dynamic adjustment mechanism of the "double-first-class" list.Only in this way can we fulfill the policy promise of a powerful country in higher education.
