Girls’ education has gradually become a hot issue of global concern. The development of girls’ education will conducive to the realization of girls’ education and their selfdevelopment, and will of great benefit to the country’s political stability, economic prosperity and social development.Since the United Nations Children’s Fund(hereinafter referred to as UNICEF)became a permanent United Nations permanent agency in 1953,it has focused on the world’s children.Girls are disadvantaged in almost the vast majority of countries, and their right to education is often affected by multiple factors.Education is the best way to promote gender equality in education and to address the crisis of the girl child. In the 1990 s,UNICEF pointed out the need to improve girls’ education to promote gender equality.Kenya is a country with a relatively good economic foundation in sub-Saharan Africa, but there is also a long-standing problem of gender inequality in education. As one of the member countries of UNICEF,UNICEF has also been paying attention to the development of education in Kenya. Therefore, this article analyzes UNICEF assistance to girls’ education in Kenya. On the basis of sorting out the background of UNICEF’s assistance to Kenyan girls’ education,it can further understand the policy and practice content of UNICEF’s assistance to Kenyan girls’ education, and then analyze and summarize the positive role and existing problems of its assistance practice. This paper is mainly divided into the following four parts.Firstly,it describes the historical development of Kenyan girls’ education in the pre-colonial period, the post-colonial period, the post-independence period and the post-21 st century period,as well as UNICEF’s attention to girls’ education in time. After Kenya’s independence, girls’ education has developed rapidly, but there are also problems such as gender inequality and unbalanced regional development. It was not until the early 1960 s and 1970 s that UNICEF began to pay attention to girls’ education. In the 1980 s and 1990 s,UNICEF emphasized that every girl has an equal right to education.Since the beginning of the 21 st century,UNICEF has vigorously developed girls’ education through policy and practical assistance, and has also paid attention to the development of girls’ education in the context of the epidemic.Secondly,on this basis,it analyzes the UNICEF policy of assisting girls’ education in Kenya.Since the 21 st century,UNICEF has formulated many policies and macro-strategic plans for girls’ education, and has also supported Kenya in formulating corresponding national education policies, providing policy and institutional guarantees for girls’ education.UNICEF calls for breaking down cultural barriers such as child marriage, circumcision, and violence, and mobilizing social forces such as religion, community, and family in Kenya to help girls’ education. And vigorously support the improvement of health infrastructure to provide girls with a good school environment, and promote the setting of an education management information system to focus more about Kenyan girls’ education and formulate corresponding development plans. In addition,UNICEF also pays attention to teacher education and provides funding for girls’ education. In assisting parents in practice,UNICEF has implemented the Kenyan Arid and Semi-arid Areas Girls Education Project and the Kenyan Remote Areas Child Friendly Schools project, and also conducted assistance practices in Kenyan girls’ education in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The practical activities have achieved certain results, but they also face obstacles such as the unsafe and stable educational environment, the still existing traditional influencing factors, and the increased difficulty of UNICEF educational assistance under the epidemic.UNICEF has played a positive role in the development of girls’ education in Kenya, improving the development of girls’ education in underdeveloped areas, promoting the improvement of school infrastructure, improving the formulation of girls’ education policies and strengthening the establishment of partnerships. At the same time, there are still some problems with UNICEF assistance, including insufficient funding for education and insufficient evaluation of policy and practice.
