At the end of the 1990 s,life education began to enter the public consciousness. The first strategic plan of China for the 21 st century, the outline of national medium and long term education reform and development plan(2010-2020),explicitly mentions life education in the chapter of "strategic themes".The newly amended Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of Minors, which came into force on June 1,2021,clearly states that the state guarantees minors’ rights to survival, development, protection and participation, and adheres to the principle of the best interests of minors. The newly amended Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of Minors covers six major protections, striving to create an environment for the safe growth of minors, safeguard their physical and mental health, and promote their overall development. From the social perspective,in recent years, there have been numerous news reports about children suffering from injuries, and incidents of children disregarding their lives have occurred frequently in rural areas. The development level of rural areas is obviously lagging behind urban areas, and rural schools and education focus more on exam-oriented education, neglecting children’s mental development and spiritual needs, and the occurrence of tragedies is closely related to children’s perception and attitude toward life.Life education as an educational concept recognizes the meaning of life and focuses on cultivating the values of minors to help them grow up with a healthy attitude. Thus, life education,as an essential part of the development of minors,is in line with the Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Protection of Minors and requires urgent attention.A successful life education lies in the correct perception of life phenomena, the possession of positive life beliefs, the perception of unique life values, and thus the promotion of life awareness. This study was conducted with children aged 11 to 12 in L community of Chengdu as the research subjects. The data were collected through interviews and questionnaires in the first stage. The current situation, causes and needs of children’s life awareness are analyzed from a life course perspective. With combination of the values, professional ethics and working skills of social work profession, the group service was designed to guide children to form a correct perception of life.It could also help establish positive life beliefs and unique values, and enhance their own life consciousness.A total of 16 children were recruited and randomly divided into experimental and control groups, and a pre-post test was taken to compare and analyze. At the same time, the performance and conversations of the group members were recorded during the group activities to provide a basis for later evaluation. The study found that the combination of group work and life education could significantly improve the life awareness of rural children. The T of independent sample t-test for the post-test data of the experimental and control groups was 4.213,with a p-value < 0.05,which was significantly different. To further verify the remarkable results,paired-sample t-tests were conducted for the post-test data of the experimental and control groups, respectively. The results showed that the t-test for the experimental group was-8.484,with a p-value <0.05,which was notably different. This indicates that the children’s life education group conducted by the social worker is feasible. It can be used to provide a model experience for group work interventions to enhance the life awareness of rural children.
