| Populism was a wave of social thought that emerged in Russia in the1840 s and 1850 s and almost simultaneously in North America and Eastern Europe in the second half of the 19 th century.Since its inception,populism has roamed the world like a ghost.As a historical social trend,populism is most likely to breed in reform processes that involve a realignment of interests.In a world undergoing changes unseen in a century,with a marked increase in instability and uncertainty,and the impact of the new epidemic is widespread and far-reaching.During the 14 th Five-Year Plan period,China has entered a new stage of development and the reform and opening up has reached a new historical juncture,but the problem of unbalanced and insufficient development is still prominent,various contradictions and problems are constantly emerging and overlapping with each other,and various trends of thought are constantly emerging and stirring with each other.The special situation of our country at this stage provides a realistic breeding ground for populism,with the advent of the Internet era,populism has begun to spread and develop through online platforms.The nature of cyberspace provides technical support for the development of populism,and as the Internet gives traditional populism a new habitat,populism has taken on a new form of expression-cyber populism.As a combination of the Internet and populism,online populism has taken on a significantly different form than traditional populism,spreading more powerfully,having a greater reach and being more potentially threatening,especially for university students in their formative years,their worldview,values and outlook on life have not yet been established and are more vulnerable to the impact of online populist thinking.Based on a comprehensive clarification of the concepts and theories related to online populism,this paper examines the negative impact of online populism on university students and explores its causes based on the dimension of maintaining ideological security,focusing on the negative impact of online populism on university students and the corresponding strategies to explore it.The reasons for the growth of online populism among university students in China today are the result of a combination of factors: the deep development of China’s reform and opening up,the various problems caused by the improper integration of social interests have stimulated the creation and fermentation of online populism;the lagging construction of university online ideology has given online populism an opportunity to take advantage of it;the lack of awareness of ideological risks among university students in China has contributed to the spread of online populism.The trend of populism on the Internet has been encouraged by the lack of ideological risk awareness among Chinese university students.As an objectively existing social phenomenon,we need to understand and evaluate online populism objectively.There is no denying that online populism can objectively have some positive effects on university students,however,online populism constantly misinterprets and infiltrates China’s mainstream ideology,infects and induces university students through its unique language expressions,and occupies ideological positions with mainstream ideology,which has a negative impact on university students that should not be underestimated.Specifically,the negative impact of online populism on university students is mainly manifested in three aspects: corrupting their values,weakening their political identity and inciting them to non-institutionalized participation behavior.To eliminate the negative influence of online populism on university students,it is necessary not only to promote the integration of social interests,but also to strengthen the construction of mainstream ideology in universities,and to improve the ideological safety guarantee system,and it is necessary to take a multi-pronged approach to form a synergy of governance. |
