| Perceived career barrier is an individual’s cognition and evaluation of negative factors in the process of career development. The existing research on the connotation and measurement method of perceived career barrier is still controversial. Most researchers selectively understand and capture the concept and structure of perceived career barrier according to different groups, but there is no perceived career barrier scale based on secondary vocational students, and there is a lack of research on the structure and characteristics of secondary vocational students’ perceived career barrier. In addition, professional commitment reflects the good performance of individuals in professional learning.A large number of studies focus on the relationship between perceived career barrier and academic development, but few studies explore the specific mechanism of perceived career barrier affecting professional commitment.Comprehensive related studies found that perceived career barrier is one of the predictors of professional commitment, career decision-making self-efficacy is also closely related to professional commitment, and school engagement may promote professional commitment. Therefore, the impact mechanism of secondary vocational students’ perceived career barrier on professional commitment remains to be clarified. This study takes secondary vocational students as the research object, compiles the secondary vocational students’ perceived career barrier scale(Study 1),discusses the characteristics of secondary vocational students’ perceived career barrier and its impact on professional commitment, and examines the mediating role of career decision-making self-efficacy in the relationship between them and the moderating role of school engagement in the mediating model(Study 2).Study 1 found that the self-made secondary vocational students’ perceived career barrier scale has 28 questions, which is composed of five dimensions: lack of external guidance, lack of parental support, unclear career exploration, lack of psychological resources and lack of practical ability. In Study 2,the characteristics of perceived career barriers of secondary vocational students and their impact on professional commitment were tested by using the perceived career barriers scale of secondary vocational students. The results show that the perceived career barrier of secondary vocational students is at the upper middle level as a whole, and there are significant differences in gender, grade and place of origin. The results of influence effect model test found that secondary vocational students’ perceived career barrier negatively predicted professional commitment;Career decision-making self-efficacy plays a mediating role in the impact of perceived career barriers on professional commitment;School engagement can play a regulating role in the intermediary chain of "perceived career barriers-Career Decision-making Self-efficacy-professional commitment".Based on the above research results, this study draws the following conclusions:(1)the perceived career barrier scale for secondary vocational students has good internal consistency reliability, split half reliability,test-retest reliability, content validity, structural validity and criterion related validity. It meets the standards of Metrology and can be used as a tool to evaluate the perceived career barrier of secondary vocational students.(2)The perceived career barrier level of secondary vocational students is relatively low. From the source of obstacles, the lack of practical ability and unclear career exploration are the main obstacles of secondary vocational students’ perception. In terms of gender, boys’ perceived career barriers are higher than girls’;In terms of grade, the perception of career obstacles of secondary vocational students increased first and then decreased. The perception of career obstacles in grade 2 is the most, and the perception of career obstacles in grade 3 is the least; In terms of source of students, the perceived career obstacles of rural secondary vocational students are higher than those of urban students.(3)The higher the perceived career barrier level of secondary vocational students, the lower the level of professional commitment.Career decision-making self-efficacy of secondary vocational students plays a partial mediating role in the impact of perceived career barrier on professional commitment.School engagement can play a regulatory role in the second half of the intermediary chain of "perceived career barriers-Career Decision-making Self-efficacy-professional commitment". |
