In recent years, due to the repeated impact of the COVID-19,the tourism industry has been greatly impacted, and many enterprises have withdrawn from the tourism market due to serious operational crises and financial crises. This means that students majoring in tourism management will face greater competition, and their confidence will be affected. At the same time, the emergence of emerging occupations and the transformation of business content in the tourism industry require more high-quality professionals. But at present, students have low career choice intentions and low employment rates in tourism industry. This contradiction between supply and demand in the labor market will not be conducive to the reserve of human resources in the tourism industry and will affect its sustainable development. Therefore, how to enhance students’ intention to choose tourism careers will be the key to solving the problem. In previous studies on the intentional factors of tourism career choices, the discussion of personal factors, occupational environment, family and school education has been mainly focused, there is a lack of research into the psychological mechanisms by which students make career choices. Therefore, based on the Social Cognitive Career Theory and the transactional theory of stress, this study will use the grounded theory to comprehensively sort out and study the influencing factors of career choice intentions of tourism management college students, and explore the influencing mechanisms.Firstly, this study adopts the method of qualitative research, conducts in-depth interviews with students of this major and collects a sufficient amount of interview texts from various universities in Chengdu, and the collected data were open-ended,spindle-encoded and selectively encoded, respectively, and the theoretical saturation test was carried out.The study found that the salary and treatment factors, the work itself factors, interpersonal relationship factors, and career development factors have a positive impact on the career choice intentions of students in tourism industry;social status perception and self-efficacy respectively play an intermediary role between each factor and career choice intention, and the social status perception and self-efficacy also play a chain-type intermediary effect between each factor and career choice intention;alternative job opportunities perception in addition to the adjustment between each factor and the career choice intention,it also plays a regulatory role between social status perception and the career choice intentions,self-efficacy and the career choice intentions.Secondly, this study selected tourism management students from various universities in Chengdu to conduct a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire items are derived from the original sentences and related literature summarized after in-depth interviews, and the questionnaires are distributed twice and at intervals of one week, and a total of 251 valid questionnaires are retained. After analyzing the data, the following research conclusions are drawn: 1.The salary and treatment factors, work factors, interpersonal relationship factors, and career development factors have a positive impact on the career choice intentions of tourism management students.2.Social status perception and self-efficacy are the mediating variables between each factor and the career choice intention. The mediating role of social status perception and the chain mediation role of social status perception and self-efficacy are significant. The self-efficacy is significant except for the intermediary effect between the f work itself factors and the career choice intentions.3.alternative job opportunities perception only regulates between career development factors and career choice intentions, social status perceptions and career choice intentions. The innovation points of this study are mainly reflected in the following three aspects: 1.This study analyzes the influencing factors of tourism career choice intentions from the perspective of tourism human resource management.Previous studies have mainly this topic from the perspective of tourism vocational education. This study starts from the human resource management practice of tourism enterprises and pays attention to the impact of the tourism professional environment on students.2.This study comprehensively uses qualitative and quantitative research methods to supplement the research related to the intention of tourism career selection.First of all,the grounded theory is used to comprehensively sort out the influencing factors of career choice intentions of college students majoring in tourism management, and enrich the theoretical system of influencing factors of career choice intentions in the field of tourism.Secondly, after the formation of the theoretical model,a questionnaire survey was conducted, and the data analysis and testing were carried out, which made the research conclusions of this paper more scientific and practical significance.3.This study reveals the intrinsic mechanism of the formation of tourism career choice intentions. The study found that under the influence of factors such as salary and treatment, work itself, interpersonal relationships, and career development,it will trigger individual social status perception and self-efficacy,and after comprehensively considering the factors of external work opportunities, individuals will have specific career choice intentions.
