As the goal of "engaging 300 million Chinese in sport on snow and ice" has been achieved,the popularity of winter sports has increased,and people are starting to pay attention to winter sports athletes.The rapid development of social media has changed the way athletes used to passively construct media images.More and more winter sports athletes have started social media accounts such as Weibo to seize the opportunity of "ice fever" and start to take the initiative to present themselves and create their own media image.This study takes the self-presentation of China’s freestyle skiing aerials team athletes as the research object,and regards weibo as a "stage" for athletes to perform,through the methods of content analysis,text analysis and case study,study their self-presentation images,strategies and motives in Weibo.According to the self-presentation theory,analyze the image of self-presentation,the strategies used,the motivations for self-presentation,and propose feasible suggestions.This study is divided into five parts.The first part is the introduction,which describes the background of the selected topic and the purpose of the study.The second part is a literature review of the literature related to self-presentation and self-presentation theory.The third part is the research object and method,a total of 866 Weibo texts from 7 athletes were selected as a sample study.The fourth part is the research results and analysis,the athletes of China’s freestyle skiing aerial skills team and their Weibo use are introduced;the study and analysis found that the athletes of China’s freestyle skiing aerials team showed two major images,the image on the field and the image off the field,the image on the field is that of a professional athlete who strives for the glory of his country and the image of a team that works together,the off-site image is a socially responsible role model,a commercially valuable marketing image and a three-dimensional life image that shares many facets;the strategies used include revealing one’s identity in a comprehensive manner,setting up the plot in multiple ways,collaborating to create hot topics that break the circle and cross the border,strengthening audience interaction and presenting a true self-image;the motivation of self-presentation of aerial skill athletes is explored in terms of both intrinsic needs and extrinsic appeals.The fifth part is the conclusion and recommendations,the popularity of social media provides the possibility for athletes to actively voice and shape their self-image,lowering the threshold and difficulty of media image communication of sports stars and their teams,and also expanding the scope of communication,feasible suggestions are made from the perspectives of both winter athlete groups and social platforms to help ice and snow athletes better present themselves. |
