In the decades since the implementation of family planning,China has rapidly changed from a multi child society to a few child society.Aging and few children have become the significant demographic characteristics of society and family. In order to cope with the change of population age structure and ensure social stability and sustainable economic development, the state has successively liberalized the second and third child policies. The elderly and children in the family are vulnerable groups, resulting in large family medical expenses and higher family support costs. In China’s current medical insurance system, relying solely on basic medical insurance can not solve the problem that the people can’t afford to see a disease. In order to enable the people to have good medical and insurance protection, the state gives great support to commercial health insurance, which helps to improve the health service industry and makes the society have more expectations and requirements for the development of commercial health insurance. On the whole,China’s commercial health insurance market will face both opportunities and challenges brought by aging and fewer children in the future.Based on this, this paper studies the impact of family population age structure on the demand for commercial health insurance.Firstly, this paper defines the concept of family population age structure, and analyzes the demand theory and related influencing factors of commercial health insurance.Secondly, this paper analyzes the current situation of the population age structure of society and family, finds that China’s society and family have the characteristics of aging and fewer children, understands the development of all aspects of China’s commercial health insurance market, and finds its sustainable and steady development.Through theoretical analysis, this paper discusses the impact mechanism of family population age structure on the demand for commercial health insurance, and makes an empirical study on the relationship between them from a micro perspective.Using the data of China Household Finance Survey(CHFS)in 2019,this paper uses Probit model to study the impact of family population age structure on the possibility of commercial health insurance participation,Tobit model to study its impact on the degree of commercial health insurance participation, and studies the impact of family population age structure on the demand for serious illness insurance, commercial medical insurance, income security insurance and long-term care insurance. The endogenous problems of control variables are analyzed, and the robustness test is carried out by replacing key variables and models. Finally,it analyzes the heterogeneity between urban and rural areas, the west of the Middle East and families with different income levels. The results of this study show that as far as the proportion of family elderly population is concerned, its impact on the demand for commercial health insurance is significantly negative, and it has a stronger inhibitory effect on urban families, middle families and high-income families; The proportion of the elderly population has a significant inhibitory effect on the demand for serious illness insurance, commercial medical insurance and income security insurance, and has the most obvious inhibitory effect on the demand for serious illness insurance, but has no significant impact on the demand for long-term care insurance. In terms of the proportion of family children and the proportion of family working population, their impact on the demand for commercial health insurance is positive, which means that when these two ratios increase, the possibility of holding commercial health insurance and its premium will increase, and this promotion effect is more significant in urban families and Eastern families; These two proportions will also promote the demand for serious illness insurance and commercial medical insurance, and the promotion effect on serious illness insurance is more obvious, but the impact on the demand for income security insurance and long-term care insurance is not significant.
