The ultimate goal of basic education is to cultivate students to become fully developed talents and meet the demands of society.Deep learning refers to students interacting with real social situations,developing cognition,knowledge and skill application,problem solving,collaboration and communication,thinking,and learning ability,which is consistent with and works as the pathway of the advanced development of core competence.However,the occurrence of deep learning requires the creation of real situations,contextualization of students’ knowledge,connecting learning and real-world experience,and extending learning outside the school.Moreover,real situations and practical applications play a more critical role on English learning.The field trip course can connect the classroom learning to real-life,allowing students to face the real natural and social situations that appear in the textbooks integrate language and interdisciplinary knowledge,conduct research and experiential learning with high engagement,and develop cognition,problem solving,responsibility as well as a creative practice,etc.,so to promote the realization of deep learning.Therefore,the implementation of field trip course is an effective way to achieve deep learning to realize the high-level development of core competence.Therefore,this study applies constructivism theory,deep learning theory and experiential learning theory,adapts deep learning framework in cognitive domain,interpersonal domain,and intrapersonal domain,takes the 30 students who take part in the English field trip course project as targets,and utilizes the classroom observation and interview method to reveal the current situation of their English deep learning from the three domains.To be specific,the research questions are as follows: 1)What is the current situation of students’ English deep learning in the English field trip courses from the cognitive domain? 2)What is the current situation of students’ English deep learning in the English field trip courses from the interpersonal domain? 3)What is the current situation of students’ English deep learning in the English field trip courses from the intrapersonal domain?The results show that students’ related competencies in cognitive,interpersonal and intrapersonal domains have been realized to a certain extent in the English field trip course.In the cognitive domain,students’ new and old knowledge of the English language has been consolidated,improved,and applied.They can manage some interdisciplinary knowledge and apply them in actual learning situation to solve practical problems.At the same time,students can critically think of a topic or phenomenon and put forward ideas or solution.Students’ communication skills are stimulated and significantly improved in real situations in the interpersonal domain.They can quickly communicate and cooperate to construct plans and solutions to complete tasks or solve problems.They accept or put forward opinions and suggestions,appropriately adjust the action path,and finally complete the task efficiently in the process.In the intrapersonal field,students’ self-efficacy gained from high experience and high engagement in field trip courses.It enables students to motivate themselves,exert their subjective initiative to better complete tasks,and form the awareness of engaging complex works to learn more knowledge and skills so to achieve the expected results.Therefore,they constantly monitor their learning and make further efforts.At the same time,students have an overall understanding of the field trip course and perceive that it can help them improve their deep-learning-related abilities from the cognitive,interpersonal and intrapersonal domains.In order to better implement the English field trip course to promote deep learning,the author also propose three main teaching suggestions in this study: 1)select the unit theme and sub-theme based on textbooks and local sites;2)design the lesson based on teaching model and deep learning competence framework;3)separate out sub-situation of the site and carry out in-depth interaction.It has recommended to combine English deep learning and field trip characteristics,reflect on realistic factors,and advise field trip learning themes,models,and strategies to promote the development of students’ English deep learning ability in future teaching and research.
