‘Cross-strait economic and trade exchanges’ have always been a ‘barometer’ for observing the peaceful development of the two sides of the strait.Promoting cross-strait economic exchanges is one of the important means to achieve national reunification. In recent years, with the intensification of China-US competition and the transformation of the mainland’s economic structure,cross-strait economic and trade relations have also undergone profound changes. This change has been reflected in the transformation of the cross-strait economic and trade model from the‘technology-capital-processing’ economic cooperation model under the complementary advantages of the past to the ‘competition and cooperation’ model. This change is reflected not only in the volume of trade, trade structure, industrial structure, and competition in the international market, but also in the policy orientation of the two sides of the strait in recent years and the political impact it has brought about. The logical context of this paper is to explain the origin of the‘competition and cooperation’ model in cross-strait economic and trade relations, specifically sort out the evolution process and characteristics of the two economic models, take cross-strait economic data as empirical materials, and focus on using economic indicators such as interdependence, trade structure similarity, international market share and other economic indicators to derive the characteristics of the cross-strait ‘competition and cooperation" model, that is,cross-strait cooperation is limited by the influence of ‘anti-service trade’;At present, the cross-strait economy still maintains a high degree of dependence due to the electronics industry.Due to the mainland’s economic structural transformation in recent years, the differences in the industrial structure of the two sides of the strait have decreased, which will lead to a decrease in ‘competition and cooperation’.The competition between enterprises on both sides of the strait for the international market share will increase the possibility of cross-strait industrial competition. The article believes that the cross-strait‘competition and cooperation’ model is the new normal of cross-strait economic and trade relations in the future. After clarifying the characteristics of this model,it is conducive to correctly viewing the political impact that the change of model may have at the political level, and provide some theoretical basis for studying the future cross-strait economic relations and policy direction.
