China is a unified multi-ethnic country, and the economies of ethnic areas occupy a pivotal position in the process of national economic development. In the economic development of ethnic regions, the informal system,as a deep-seated cause of the economic development of ethnic regions in China, plays a prominent role, which is lasting and steeped in historical processes, influencing the form and social structure of economic activities in ethnic regions. At the same time, the village market,as the main trading place in the ethnic areas of China, not only stabilises employment and increases the income of all ethnic groups, but also constantly influences and promotes the economic development of the ethnic areas of China. However,at this stage of development, rural markets in ethnic areas have become backward trading places, and there are many problems with the business environment, which does not play its role of promoting the circulation of goods in the rural society of ethnic areas. This means that there are still many problems and difficulties in the process of economic development in ethnic areas.Taking the village market as the main object of research, the informal system that has an important impact on the economic development of ethnic areas is analyzed, which is very meaningful for exploring the ideas and countermeasures of high-quality economic development in ethnic areas that are suitable for China’s national conditions, and making good use of the informal system and promoting the healthy development of rural markets in ethnic areas.Based on the in-depth investigation and interviews, this thesis focuses on the local market of Zexiang in Zhenfeng County,Qianyinan Buyi Miao Autonomous Prefecture,Guizhou Province, and takes the informal system and the economic development of ethnic regions as the main object of study. An argumentative analysis of the relationship between village fairs, informal institutions and economic development in ethnic areas. The first chapter firstly compares the development history of the main research object of this thesis, the village market of Zexiang, and discusses the development changes and the institutional background of the market, finding that as a village market in an ethnic region,it has been deeply influenced by the national policies and economic systems of the country in various periods, and that the village market is closely related to the economic development of the country. The second chapter describes the structure of the bazaar and the changes in the circulation of goods in time, space, objects and people, attempting to present the details of the bazaar and the culture behind it in a vivid, vivid and as complete a way as possible using the ’deep description’ technique.Chapter 3 takes an empirical approach to the analysis of the informal system in the operation of the village market in Zexiang discussing and explaining how the informal system operates in the village market. In addition, the impact of the informal system on the behaviour of rural market participants and the transaction costs of the market are analysed from an ethno-economic perspective, showing that the informal system affects the rural market as well as the economic development of the ethnic region, laying a theoretical foundation for the analysis that follows. The fourth chapter analyses the mechanism of informal institutions on the economic development of ethnic areas,as well as several informal institutions that influence the economic development of ethnic groups, with the aim of showing that rural markets, informal institutions and ethnic economic development complement each other and influence each other. The final section proposes measures and suggestions for optimising the informal institutions in rural markets and promoting the healthy development of rural markets and the high-quality economic development of ethnic areas.
