Research Of The United States Strengthening Arms Sales To Taiwan And China’s Countermeasures Under The Background Of Strategic Competition

Since the beginning of the 21 st century,especially after the 2008 international financial crisis,the world has not experienced major changes in a century and has accelerated its evolution.The international power structure dominated by the United States is facing shocks and challenges,the so-called "rising in the east and declining in the west",China leads the collective rise of emerging countries,while the overall power status of Western countries such as the United States have declined relatively.This has caused the strategic anxiety of the United States about China’s challenge to its hegemony.During the Trump administration,the United States officially formed its strategy of comprehensive competition with China.Under the background of strategic competition,Taiwan’s strategic value to the United States has once again become prominent.As a result,the United States has developed relations with Taiwan and strengthened arms sales to Taiwan.Based on this,it is necessary to study the main content of the US military sales policy in recent years,the purpose of adjustment,the impact and China’s response policy.This article is based on the theory of structural realism and national interest theory,using historical analysis and textual analysis methods to grasp the empirical laws of the historical evolution of US military sales to Taiwan.Based on official or quasi official documents of the US government,think tank evaluation reports,and relevant academic research results,it analyzes and understands the practical background of the great changes in the power structure between China and the United States,as well as the strategic competition between the US and China.This summarizes the main measures taken by the US government since 2017 to strengthen military sales to Taiwan,with a focus on the legal basis,scale,weapon specifications,sales models,and security cooperation mechanisms of military sales to Taiwan.It explores its objectives in terms of security,economy,politics,and ideology,and analyzes its impact on cross-strait relations,Sino-US relations,and the Asia Pacific region,The impact on cross-strait relations is reflected in China’s sovereignty and security interests,as well as Taiwan region’s development prospects.The impact on Sino-US relations is reflected in the strategic mutual trust and arms race between China and the United States.The impact on the Asia Pacific region is reflected in the regional security situation and the formation of alliance networks.Based on this,policy recommendations are proposed,mainly including the need for the United States to stabilize the overall situation of Sino-US relations and counter US arms sales in Taiwan through a combination of strength and softness,China itself should continue to strengthen the construction of hard power,create a friendly surrounding diplomatic environment,strengthen control over the Taiwan Strait region,deepen economic,cultural and social integration between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait,so as to effectively respond to the US arms sales to Taiwan,safeguard and promote China’s sovereign security and development interests.
