Fingerprint evidence has a high incidence and wide application in the field of forensic science, and its identification results can often provide important clues for case investigation. The fingerprint features currently used in fingerprint identification are generally level 2 features, which have strong stability, reflectivity, specificity, and can objectively reflect the relationship between the fingerprints at the scene and the sample fingerprints. However,as the awareness of criminals against investigation increases, complete fingerprints are becoming increasingly rare at crime scenes, and investigators often need to extract information from incomplete fingerprints with fewer level 2 features in order to make full use of their evidential value. Therefore,it is particularly important to explore whether more microscopic fingerprint level 3 features can provide references for individual identification, and it is necessary to conduct in-depth research on the relevant characteristics of fingerprint level 3 features to explore their practical application value. This article uses a high-magnification digital microscope to measure and analyze the fingerprint level 3 features on human fingers and conducts the following research:In the first part, the distribution characteristics of sweat pore features are explored based on sweat pore size and spacing. The size and spacing distribution of sweat pores in different areas, finger positions, and individuals on the fingers are statistically analyzed to summarize the differences and discreteness rules of sweat pore size and spacing. It is found that there are significant differences and large discreteness in the size and spacing of sweat pores in different individuals, finger positions, and areas. In the second part, the stability characteristics of sweat pore features are explored based on sweat pore position and area. The changes in the position and area of sweat pore samples during a one-month cycle of epidermal metabolism are statistically analyzed, and the stability rules of sweat pore position and area are analyzed. It is found that the position stability of sweat pores is strong, and the area stability of sweat pores is poor, and there are differences in the stability of sweat pore area among different individuals. In the third part, the stability characteristics of fine dotted line and discontinuousness line are explored based on their lengths. The changes in the lengths of fine dotted line and discontinuousness line samples during a one-month cycle of epidermal metabolism are statistically analyzed, and the stability rules of fine dotted line and discontinuousness line are analyzed. It is found that both have strong stability and small changes in a short period of time. This article systematically summarizes the distribution characteristics and stability characteristics of fingerprint level 3 features on finger ridges, and analyzes whether fingerprint level 3 features have a theoretical basis for fingerprint identification.By summarizing the distribution differences and discreteness rules of sweat pores,it provides references for tracing and locating incomplete fingerprints.By analyzing the stability rules of sweat pores, fine dotted line and discontinuousness line,it provides a scientific basis for the application of fingerprint level 3 features in the identification of incomplete fingerprints. The above research helps to improve the utilization of incomplete fingerprints in the individual identification process and promote the application of fingerprint level 3 features in the field of judicial identification.
