In recent years, the partisan struggle between the two parties in the USA has become more and more intense, and the phenomenon of polarisation has always affected the normal functioning of American political life.At present, the two parties in the United States are facing a series of dilemmas, such as the transformation from moderate to polarized party system, the emergence of veto politics, and the weakening of party organization and function. This reflects the contradictions and institutional dilemmas that have been inherent in American democracy since its inception. At present,American politics is operating at a stalemate in veto-politics.The party interests override national interests, and members of Parliament belonging to political parties vote on a partisan basis accordingly. This has led to political gridlock, institutional inertia, ineffective national governance and a lack of continuity in public policy in America. This phenomenon has made it more difficult for the two major parties in America to negotiate a "consensus" on national development, resulting in the emergence and development of the veto-polarized two-party system. This paper uses documentary analysis, empirical analysis and systematic analysis to systematically explain the definition and manifestation of the current veto-polarized two-party system in the United States by drawing on theories of spatial positioning of political parties and the ideological spectrum, using knowledge of party science and some quantitative indicators. In addition, exploring the reasons for the emergence of the veto-polarized two-party system in America is the main issue addressed in this paper.Based on the historical origins of political parties and the current socio-political situation in America, the article delves into the factors of the current strengthening of the veto-polarized two-party system in America from the perspectives of the social division of the electorate, the limitations of the electoral system and the individualized politics in America respectively. Finally, there is a close interaction between politics and society in America, and the polarization of the two-party system and vetocracy will have significant effects on a range of domestic and foreign policy levels.American democracy is severely challenged.According to the analysis of facts and cases in this paper, the current veto-polarized two-party system in America has led to the disappearance of policy consensus between the two major parties,a blanket veto of major policies of the previous party by the ruling party, partisan voting lines in Congress, and a plight of personal rivalry between the two parties. With the various contradictions stimulating each other and interacting with each other, the two parties are showing an increasing reluctance to compromise with each other. Thus, both from the point of view of history, the current domestic political situation and the future of American domestic politics, the veto-polarized two-party system and its effects are here to stay and will not be able to escape this political development in the short term. However, how far will the veto-polarized two-party system in America go? Is it likely to be reversed or diminished? These questions still require further observation and research in the future.
