Trotskyism is a far-left ideology in the world socialist movement and has become the guiding ideology that some far-left parties are committed to follow in several countries and regions of the world, especially in Latin America.Trotskyist party organizations carry out various struggles aimed at achieving socialism in reality, called the Trotskyist movement.Compared with other countries, the Trotskyist movement in Bolivia had a great influence on the country’s political development, and then gradually declined.Since the beginning of the 21 st century,left-wing groups have been rising in Latin America.Left-wing parties have come to power in many Latin American countries, and a regional "pink wave" has emerged in Latin America.Although Bolivian Trotskyists have never been in power, the influence of Bolivian Trotskyism is still present in the country’s political life, but why Bolivian Trotskyists have not been able to develop in the wave of the rise of the left.Bolivia is a typical case in the history of the development of the Trotskyist movement, and the search for the causes of its decline provides guidelines for understanding the Trotskyist movement in the 21 st century. The Bolivian Trotskyist movement, based on the Bolivian Revolutionary Workers’ Party, had gained significant and lasting influence among the workers’ movement and the peasant class, but gradually moved to the periphery and its political influence waned in the course of its development in Bolivia.Taking the evolution of Bolivian Trotskyism as a starting point, this paper explores the socio-historical background of the rise of the Bolivian Trotskyist movement and comprehensively compares the development of Bolivian Trotskyism in chronological order, namely, the early formative period in the1930 s,the golden period from the 1940 s to the 1950 s,the split period from the late1950 s to the 1970 s,the 1980 s to the 21 st century the period of disintegration and the current state of development since the 21 st century.By analyzing the changes in the Trotskyist parties’ political programs, activities, internal relations, and relations with other parties and political organizations, the main reasons for the gradual decline of the Bolivian Trotskyist movement are analyzed from the perspective of party science are as follows: the theoretical programs and practical activities of the Trotskyist parties are detached from the masses, the continuous division of the parties weakens their political organization, the limited political resources weaken their political mobilization, the dominant party system squeezes living space, the economic development weakens the social base, and the international Trotskyist development is marginalized.Based on this, the thesis reviews and outlooks the impact and trends of the Bolivian Trotskyist movement, explores the reasons for the decline of the Bolivian Trotskyist movement, answers why the Bolivian Trotskyists have failed to revive in the21 st century when the Latin American left has emerged, and reflects on the lessons it has brought. This provides counterfactuals for a full understanding of the dangers of extreme left-wing parties to the world socialist and workers’ movements, and has important theoretical significance for our understanding of the history of the development of socialist extreme left-wing parties and their ideological and cognitive errors.
