The Performances,reasons,and Countermeasures Of The Differences In The Policies Of Australia And New Zealand Towards China In The Post-financial Crisis Era

Since 2017,China-Australia political relations have been in turmoil.Australia has blatantly violated the basic norms of international relations,and has repeatedly made wrong words and deeds on important topics related to China’s core interests such as Hong Kong,Xinjiang and Taiwan.Australia’s slander and criticism of China’s so-called "interference and infiltration" will stigmatize the normalized relationship between China and Australia.In May 2021,China announced that it would indefinitely suspend all projects of the China-Australia Strategic Economic and Trade Dialogue Mechanism.In contrast,China-New Zealand bilateral relations have set a number of world "firsts" records,and the friendship between China and New Zealand has become an important example of long-term,stable,friendly cooperation and exchanges between China and Western countries.2022 coincides with the 50 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand,and the upgrade of the free trade agreement has been achieved.Australia and New Zealand are on the South Pacific branch of the 21 st Century Maritime Silk Road.Considering both economic and trade development and geopolitics,the sound development of China-Australia and China-New Zealand relations is of great significance.Currently in the post-financial crisis era,the impact of a sharp slowdown in global economic expansion and a marked slowdown in trade globalization has been transmitted from the economic sphere to the political sphere.Australia and New Zealand have different attitudes towards the rise of China,and also have obvious differences in their treatment of the Belt and Road Initiative and the constraints on China.The three major factors of national strategic positioning,strategic independence,national culture and values have caused the differences in China policy between Australia and New Zealand.China can make official contacts with Australia and New Zealand by relying on the RCEP agreement,and support New Zealand’s limited mediation capacity in China-Australia relations.At the same time,China can actively promote urban diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy to enhance political mutual trust with Australia and New Zealand,try to connect with the "New Zealand Aid Plan" proposed by the New Zealand government to conduct open and transparent third-party cooperation in the South Pacific region,and connect New Zealand’s domestic The National Land Transport Plan for infrastructure development.China can continue to create a model example of the harmonious coexistence of China-New Zealand relations,let the good momentum of the development of China-New Zealand relations drive the improvement of China-Australia relations,and circumvent pressure on Australia to ease the current tense Sino-Australian political situation.
