On July 7,1937,the Japanese imperialists created the “Lugouqiao Incident”,and the whole nation’s war of resistance broke out in China.In November 1937,after the Kuomintang army withdrew from Shanghai,Shanghai’s public concessions and French concessions were reduced to “isolated islands” surrounded by occupied areas.In order to use the special environment of the "isolated island" to carry out antiJapanese propaganda,Eighth Route Army Office in Shanghai supported a series of newspapers and publications.“National Public Commentary” is one of them.“National Public Commentary” was first published on September 10,1938,and ceased publication after the publication of the second volume and the fourth issue in July 1939.In less than a year of publication,under the auspices of editor-in-chief Wang Renshu,"National Public Commentary" has gathered well-known experts in various fields such as Wu Qingyuan,Hu Yuzhi,Hu Quyuan,Wang Tongzhao,Pan Zinian,Zheng Zhenduo,Yan Jingyao,Wu Dakun,Sun Yefang,etc.It has become a link between progressive intellectuals who stayed on the “isolated island”.With their participation,“National Public Commentary” published a large number of academically rational and combative articles,which became one of the publications with the characteristics of anti-Japanese,color of unite front and theoretical characteristics on the propaganda front of the Shanghai the War of anti-Japanese at that time.“National Public Commentary” aims to “win the war of anti-Japanese”,and its content covers politics,economy,international relations,culture and other fields.In the short period of publication,the monthly magazine “National Public Commentary”has always shown a clear orientation to against Japan,actively publicized the CPC’s proposition of the War of Resistance,exposed the plight of the Japanese aggressors and the deceptive remarks of the Japanese and puppets,and strengthened the confidence of the Chinese people to win the war of resistance.At the same time,as an“isolated island” publication,“National Public Commentary” also actively supported the development of Shanghai’s anti-Japanese culture,published a large number of social science articles,and participated in the Literary Communication Movement in Shanghai,contributing to the development of the movement.As a publication supported by Eighth Route Army Office in Shanghai,“National Public Commentary”also publicized Marxism and the achievements of the Soviet Union’s socialist construction.
