Research On The Gig Economy From The Perspective Of Marxist Labor Value Theory

The development of digital technology and the emergence of digital platforms have given rise to the gig economy.During the COVID-19,the gig economy was in full swing,and a large number of people joined the wave of the gig economy to escape from the dilemma of unemployment.Instead of giving workers a better state of existence,the "free" and "flexible" gig economy has plunged them into deeper labor exploitation.It is important to study the gig economy under the Marxist labor value theory,which can not only give a new interpretation to the Marxist labor value theory in the new era.It can also reveal the unchanging logic of capital behind the gig economy and the exploitation of labor in the gig economy.The research on the gig economy under the Marxist labor value theory can provide some references for the development of China’s gig economy.Presently,domestic and foreign scholars are divided on the exact definition of the gig economy.In this thesis,by sorting out the views of domestic and foreign scholars,a clear definition of the gig economy is given.Compared with the previous traditional economic model,the gig economy has undergone numerous changes,with the emergence of the digitization of labor materials,fragmentation of the labor force and fragmentation of labor space.The labor in the gig economy actually has the same duality of labor as traditional material labor,and the labor products produced by gig workers still have use value and value.The surplus value produced by gig workers is still deprived of capital.Moreover,the employment relationship in the gig economy is different from the traditional employment relationship in the past,which is "self-employment" and "indirect employment".Behind the changes in the gig economy is the unchanging logic of capital.The gig economy is the product of contemporary excess capital and excess labor and is a new mode and means of modern capital accumulation.Through the gig economy,capital exploits gig workers and puts them into an alienated state of existence.The gig economy not only monopolizes the labor rights of workers but also makes them perform unpaid and low-paid labor.Under various incentives and ubiquitous electronic monitoring,gig workers continue to work with high intensity and long hours.The current gig workers are an atomized team,and there are many difficulties in trying to unite the gig workers.According to the research of domestic and foreign scholars,the author tries to suggest some possible ways to liberate the gig workers and proposes some strategic references for the innovation of the social policy system in China.
