The Study On The Construction Of The Worker Image In The Road Of Workers (1925-1927)

The worker image is not only the political symbol for the revolutionary mobilization of the Communist Party of China but also the text epitome of Sinicization of Marxism.Since early modern times of China,the forces from the interior and the exterior had prompted multi-dimensional changes of the social idea and reality of China.Traditional order gradually disintegrated and lost its legitimacy,which led to the prolonged vacuum of the power center of ideology and politics in China.Various forces competed or cooperated with one another to seek national liberation and social reform,and to reconstruct the cultural and political system of the society of China.In this historical context,Marxism and the Communist Party intervened in the changes and reform of the society of China.Around the 1920s,the October Revolution and the May Fourth Movement significantly promoted the spread and acceptance of Marxism in China.Along with the organization of communist intellectuals,Leninism gradually substituted polyphonic Marxism to become the core consensus of the CPC.Meanwhile,the upsurge of domestic anti-imperialist patriotic movement promoted the climax of the labor movement.Workers’political energy demonstrated and entered the view of communist intellectuals.The rise of modern newspapers and journals and their popularization and politicization provided vital media for Chinese communists to spread their doctrine as well as establish connections with workers in organization and ideology.Lenin’s Theory of Imperialism connected the national liberation movement of colonies and semi-colonies with the world proletariat revolution,which made the integration of Marxism into the Nationalism in the early modern society of China and the practice of Marxism in the national revolution become possible.During the period of the Great Revolution,along with the cooperation between the CPC and Kuomintang of China who propelled the National Revolution together,taking the opportunity of the outbreak of the May 30th Movement and the Canton-Hong Kong Strike,the Chinese communists promoted propaganda and organization among the workers.Thus,a daily paper named "The Road of Workers" was published.Based on the practical demands of the national revolution and the enlightenment of the proletariat,the Chinese communists redefined the character of workers through the social network of modern China in order to eliminate the impact of traditional forces and make Cantonese and Hong Kong workers who lacked a unitary organization and class consciousness become the members of a nation and a class.As a kind of the production of knowledge and discursive practices,the construction of the worker image on the one hand reshaped the way that readers imagined themselves and the world,and formed the new identity of workers,on the other hand reflected the significance reproduced by the integration of the alien theory with the indigenous culture,and the power and discourse competition of different forces.The construction strategies were used to help convert the image fabricated by others to the self-imagination of workers so that the reality of workers would be reformed.The utility of the forms tackled the problem of how the communities could be imagined through creating a sense of community of workers.The simplified peripheral texts helped workers grasp the canon,and made the image which conveyed the thoughts of revolution permeate the field of daily life and become the philosophy of life which guided behaviors and actions.The concrete narrative techniques enabled the abstract image to be visual and more authentic.The worker image fabricated by the Chinese communists and its discursive practices produced a series of historical effects which not only indicated the rise of the CPC,and catalyzed the formation of the communities of the nation and the class,but also threatened the progress of the revolution and the development of history.In addition,it could offer some enlightenments to the current construction and reconstruction of the worker image from the perspectives of methods and issues.
