Alison M.Jaggar,Professor of Philosophy and Women’s Studies,University of Colorado,USA,Feminist school of Marxism. The representative works mainly include Feminist Politics and Human Nature,Gender Difference and Equality,Research on Global Women’s Inequality-Some Priorities in Western Philosophy. She is an important scholar of feminism. With the rise and development of the third technological revolution and the adjustment of industrial structure in western capitalist society, women began to move from family to society, but still faced with many oppressions and challenges.Influenced by the free and open social and political atmosphere of the West, the mass democratic political movement continues to develop, coupled with the advancement of the second feminist wave, the Western feminist schools have emerged, which has promoted the formation of Jaggar’s feminist thought. As a Marxist,Jaggar combined Marxism with feminism on the basis of inheriting Marx’s theory of human nature, women’s liberation thought, gender division of labor theory and feminist thought, which laid the ideological foundation for building his own feminist Marxist thought.Jaggar rationally criticizes the essence of Western feminists. It is believed that both liberal feminism and radical feminism have certain limitations in the analysis and understanding of human nature, and there are problems and defects. Therefore,on the basis of criticizing the essential thought of Western feminists,Jaggar puts feminist thought in the development of Marxist theory, combines the theory of human nature with the all-round and free development of women, and constructs his own feminist Marxist thought with human nature as the starting point of theory.Jaggar analyzes the problems faced by women in capitalist society and the root causes of their oppression from a unique theoretical perspective, analyzes the essence of women from the perspective of gender based on social reality, and points out that the nature of women is shaped and strengthened in social practice. The social relationship of women’s survival determines the formation of the essence of women. The realization of the nature of women is the satisfaction of women’s production, fertility and spiritual needs. The all-round and free development of women needs to eliminate class and gender,so it is necessary to overthrow the capitalist system and patriarchy through social change.Human nature is the core of life science and political science, the basis of Jaggar’s study of women’s issues, and the logical main line of Marxist thought through Jaggar’s feminism.Based on the basic viewpoints of Marx’s theory of human nature,Jaggar used the method of historical materialism to analyze women’s nature from the perspective of gender analysis, and established the feminist thought of human nature. In other words,Jaggar has made important contributions to enriching the research perspective of human nature, using historical materialism to analyze the essence of women, and providing new ideas for the development of women’s liberation. However,it is undeniable that Jaggar’s feminist Marxist thought also has limitations in that it only focuses on women’s liberation and ignores men’s liberation and the liberation of all mankind, pays one-sided attention to women’s negative experience and lacks a comprehensive understanding of women’s own experience, and is bound by bourgeois feminist thought, which leads to its failure to propose a concrete and feasible struggle route to achieve women’s liberation. The limitations of the bourgeoisie have led to its failure to put forward specific and feasible struggle routes for women’s liberation.Generally speaking,Jaggar’s feminist Marxist thought has expanded the study of women’s issues from different aspects, and provided some theoretical references for analyzing women’s issues and promoting women’s liberation in combination with contemporary reality.
