At present, the world is undergoing a major change unprecedented in a century, the international political and economic order is volatile and unstable, and countries around the world are standing at the "crossroads" of history, seeking ways of survival in the repeated game of globalisation and anti-globalisation.In the game of globalisation and counter-globalisation,the confrontation between ideologies, cultures and civilisations has intensified and has even played a decisive role.China’s remarkable achievements in responding to globalisation, for example, have been made possible by the scientific ideas and correct positions given by ideology and culture. However, the frequency of ideological censure and the challenges of counter-globalisation have also forced China to contend with unpredictable and latent crises. This intertwining of politics and culture has become an important factor in gaining insight into the new developments in capitalism and in analysing the differences between capitalist and socialist modernity.Political and cultural critique is precisely the object of close attention and the distinctive theoretical character of postcolonial thinking. Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to look at the hegemonic discourse of capitalism through the lens of post-colonial thinking,to clarify the negative impact of the logic of capital on China and the international community, and to explore strategies to deal with the challenges of globalisation. As a postcolonial theorist who holds a Marxist position,Arif Dirlik has placed himself in the different situations of capitalist and socialist development since the 1980 s,confronted the shortcomings of his predecessors in postcolonial studies, reflected on the shortcomings of traditional postcolonial theory, and studied postcolonial issues on the basis of adhering to the critical tradition and theoretical innovation, which is unique among postcolonial thinking.Dirlik takes a Marxist standpoint, and is critical of traditional postcolonial theories such as Edward Said’s "Orientalism",Gayatri Spivak’s "subordinate" women’s studies,Homi Bhabha’s "hybridity" theory and others. It also examines the globalization issues involved in post-colonialism,taking into account both local and global interpretations of the global situation and analyzing the essence of capitalist hegemony.Faced with the fading of socialist revolutions on a global scale,Dirlik, based on his critique of postcolonial theory, points out that "postcolonial" can no longer sum up the current situation and proposes "post-revolutionary" as an alternative. From this standpoint,Derrick uses his academic experience,China’s rich history and traditional culture, and the rise of China’s international discourse as the logic to propose a concrete perspective on the "Chinese solution",and places the solution to the "post-revolutionary atmosphere" in China. It points out that "socialism with Chinese characteristics" manifests the dialectical unity of "localisation" and "globalisation",and is a "post-socialist" paradigm to counter capitalist hegemony. It is a "post-socialist" paradigm that confronts the hegemony of capitalism and continues to focus on the modernisation of socialism with Chinese characteristics. On the whole,Dirlik focuses on the post-colonial issue from a larger historical perspective of the whole world, exposing the true nature of capitalism in the era of globalisation. In terms of theoretical value,Dirlik’s postcolonial critical theory provides a new theoretical vision for postcolonial studies. His research inherits the Marxist view of history, fully affirms the critical spirit contained in Marxist theory, and deepens the Western Marxist critical theory of capitalism. In a practical sense,Dirlik’s thinking on the "Chinese solution" provides a new interpretation and paradigm for the modernisation of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and also provides theoretical support for promoting socialism with Chinese characteristics to follow the Chinese modernisation path more confidently in the complex and changing global situation. However,as Dirlik inherits the spirit of Marxist critique,he mostly keeps the critique at the level of discourse and lacks substantive paths or strategies to bring about practical changes. And as a Western scholar,Dirlik’s understanding of socialism with Chinese characteristics is also somewhat one-sided.Nevertheless,at a time of increasingly vigorous globalisation,it is still important to study Dirlik’s post-colonial critical theory in order to seek a theoretical logic and practical path to confront capitalist hegemony,to promote the development and prosperity of the world economy and culture, and to advance Chinese-style modernisation.
