to prevent old age",family pension plays an important role in my country’s pension system,and children,as the bearers of supporting the elderly in the family,play a vital role in the pension and health of the elderly population.important role.In recent years,the concept of fertility in my country has been affected by the one-child policy,and there has been a trend of shrinking family size and weakening family pension functions.In order to actively respond to the problem of population aging,my country has begun to gradually liberalize the fertility policy,which means that my country’s family structure is likely to continue to change.Therefore,it is of great practical significance to study the influence of children’s structure on the health of the elderly.This paper uses the 2018 Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey(CLHLS)data,selects relevant variables and processes the data according to the different aspects of the health of the elderly in the questionnaire,and describes the health of the elderly by measuring the frailty index.The relationship between the structure of children and the health of the elderly was studied in terms of the number and gender of surviving children.According to the mediation effect analysis procedure summarized by Wen Zhonglin(2014)and Fang Jie,Wen Zhonglin et al.(2017),the mediating mechanism of the influence of children’s structure on the health of the elderly is explored from the two aspects of intergenerational support and living conditions.corresponding policy recommendations.This study found that children play an important role in the elderly care process.First,an increase in the number of surviving children can significantly improve the health of the elderly.Among them,the financial support,daily care and spiritual comfort provided by children played a significant mediating effect on the body and spirit.However,the way of living with children did not play a significant role,and the improvement of the living environment had a greater positive effect on the health of the elderly.However,it is worth noting that the improvement of children’s health of the elderly mainly focuses on the body,and does not play a significant role in mental health,and children generally ignore the mental state of the elderly.Secondly,through the empirical research in this paper,it is found that the proportion of sons in the total number of children does not have a significant impact on the health of the elderly.The family structure can become a new fertility incentive in the new era.Finally,through the heterogeneity analysis,it can be seen that there are significant differences in the health effects of children on the elderly of different genders.Women are more dependent on children in the process of retirement,and marriage also has different meanings for the elderly of different genders.At the same time,there are also significant differences in the dual structure of urban and rural areas in my country.Combined with my country’s rural labor outflow,serious "hollowing",and lack of medical resources,it is difficult for rural children to have a significant impact on the health of elderly parents.In contrast,the increase in the number of children of urban elderly has a positive effect on their health.more effect.Combined with the research conclusions,this paper puts forward relevant policy recommendations from three aspects:state,society and family.In order to effectively improve the health level and life satisfaction of the elderly,and at the same time actively respond to the current situation of population aging,it is not only necessary to complement the family pension and social pension,but also the joint efforts of the state,society and family.At the national level,relevant policies can be introduced to provide financial support and time support to children who need to support the elderly,so as to reduce the pressure of child support.At the same time,it is necessary to continuously promote and improve my country’s social security system,social welfare system and the construction of pension facilities,so as to realize the complementary pension pattern of social pension and family pension.At the same time,we will increase publicity efforts for the elderly care function of children,and improve the fertility supporting welfare system in combination with the gradually liberalized fertility policy,which will help stimulate the willingness to bear children from the side.At the social level,it focuses on publicizing and fostering a social atmosphere of "respecting the elderly,supporting the elderly,and loving the elderly",raising children’s awareness of the obligation to support their parents in old age,and implementing targeted support for the elderly by community and other grass-roots organizations.In terms of family,it focuses on promoting filial piety in the new era,and raising children’s attention to the health of the elderly,especially mental health.At the same time,it is necessary to strengthen the binding force of relevant laws to effectively protect the rights of the elderly.
