| Decentralisation, according to the literature on traditional political economy,is an important strategy for resolving inequality. There has recently been mounting evidence that decentralisation does not eliminate inequality and,in certain cases, may instead increase it.This study argues that the relationship between decentralisation and inequality is not a simple one and that the two are not inextricably linked. This study examines economic equality in Vietnam following re-centralisation using a quasi-natural experiment in Vietnam. It concludes that while the central government in Vietnam has concentrated on poverty relief and reducing inequality,re-centralisation has not lowered social disparity. |
