Alliance is a common phenomenon in international politics.Since the end of the Cold War,the United States has built a close and grand alliance system around the world, and the relationship with its allies is an important factor affecting the hegemony dominated by the United States.Trump put forward the “Indo-Pacific Strategy” after taking office. The main goal of the“Indo-Pacific Strategy” is to curb China’s influence in Indo-Pacific region, which coincides with Australia’s view of “Indo-Pacific Strategy”.Therefore, the Australia-US alliance is further strengthened under the background of “Indo-Pacific Strategy”.Under the background of“Indo-Pacific Strategy”,the cooperation between Australia and the United States in politics, military affairs and diplomacy has been deepening. However, the Trump administration’s foreign policy of “US first” and its insistence on withdrawing from TPP have brought negative factors to the development of Australia-US alliance. The differences between Australia and the United States have increased, and the development of Australia-US alliance is facing challenges.Although there are differences between Australia and the United States,Australia and the United States will not change their understanding of the common interests of the Indo-Pacific region.Based on this, this paper aims to study the development and changes of Australia-US alliance under the background of “Indo-Pacific Strategy”,the influence of Australia-US alliance development on Indo-Pacific region and China, and the influence of Biden’s latest “Indo-Pacific Strategy” on Australia-US alliance. In addition to the introduction, this paper is divided into five parts. The first part mainly reviews the development of Australia-US alliance.According to the time logic, the first stage is the Australia-US alliance during the Cold War,focusing on the Australia-US alliance during the Korean War and the Vietnam War.The second stage is the Australia-US alliance from the end of the Cold War to the beginning of the 21 st century(1993-2009).In this stage,Australia experienced the Paul Keating administration,Howard administration and the Kevin Rudd administration.Only during the Paul Keating administration, did it show a short and strong sense of independent diplomacy, and the next two governments strongly supported the strengthening of the Australia-US alliance. The second part explains the background and content of the “Indo-Pacific Strategy”.The Trump administration’s “Indo-Pacific Strategy” is actually the expansion of the Obama administration’s “Asia-Pacific rebalancing strategy”.It pays more attention to the alliance between the United States and countries with similar values and ideologies in Indo-Pacific region,so as to safeguard the strategic interests of the United States in Indo-Pacific region and uphold the stability of Indo-Pacific order. The United States hopes to maintain a long-term stable, prosperous and safe environment in the Indo-Pacific region. However, due to the enhanced military strength of China and Russia, and the close cooperation between China and Russia in the fields of politics, economy and diplomacy, the United States is full of anxiety and panic about the current balance of power situation in the Indo-Pacific region.Based on this, the United States decided to deepen the security cooperation with its allies to ensure that the regional situation in the Indo-Pacific region is beneficial to the strategic interests of the United States. The third part, through collecting and sorting out strategic reports, academic works and other materials, focusing on the reasons and performance of strengthening the Australia-US alliance during the Trump administration.Australia highly agrees with the “Indo-Pacific Strategy”proposed by the United States. Both Australia and the United States have their own interests, and the Australia-US alliance has been strengthened under the background of the “Indo-Pacific Strategy”.Australia and the United States frequently talk politically and strengthen political mutual trust.Military Australia took the initiative to share for the United States and expand Australia-US defense cooperation. With the implementation of “trade protectionism” by the Trump administration, the economic development of Australia and the United States has experienced some twists and turns, but overall,it is improving. The fourth part analyzes the dilemma faced by Australia-US alliance.Due to the Trump administration’s policy of “US first”,the Australia-US alliance is facing challenges under the background of “Indo-Pacific strategy”.The foreign policies of Australia and the United States towards China have influenced the development of the Australia-US alliance. At the same time, the strategic contraction policy implemented by the Trump administration has caused a great crisis of trust to ally Australia. It can be seen that Australia is not obedient to the United States, but also has interests’ differences with the United States. The fifth part analyzes the future development trend of Australia-US alliance and in the future and puts forward some countermeasures for China. After Biden took office,he released a new version of the US “Indo-Pacific Strategy”.The strengthening of the Australia-US alliance will seriously threaten the security and stability of Indo-Pacific region, and the changes of the Australia-US alliance will also have a profound impact on Sino-US relations and Australia-China relations. In the face of the continuous strengthening of the Australia-US alliance,China should plan ahead and strengthen its own strength in political, economic and military aspects in order to cope with possible changes and challenges in the future.
