Marx and Weber are both great scholars living in the 19th century.Their research objects and starting points are similar to a certain extent, but their research results are quite different. Therefore, the academic circles have a strong interest in the comparative study of Marx and Weber’s academic thoughts.Especially in the research field of social stratification,Marx and Weber put forward many insightful views.Because of this, the comparison of Marx’s and Weber’s social stratification theories has always been a hot topic in academic research, occupying an important position in the field of Western social stratification, and has played a great role in understanding the complexity and construction of China’s social structure. The socialist harmonious society has important reference significance. To compare Marx’s and Weber’s theories of social stratification,it is first necessary to compare the theoretical background, development process and main content of the two’s theories. The theoretical background comparison is carried out from two aspects:the comparison of the background of the times and the comparison of the academic background. For the comparison of the background of the times, this paper conducts a field analysis from the European scene, national background, and family environment, and conducts a comprehensive and systematic investigation of his thoughts;the academic background is from the perspectives of class antagonism, class view and historical view, and theoretical standpoint,a comparative analysis is carried out.The comparison of the development process is to organize the social stratification theories of Marx and Weber from the perspective of time line and take the writings as time nodes, which lays a theoretical foundation for the analysis of the similarities and differences of the main content of the two theories. On this basis, the research on the similarity and difference of Marx and Weber’s social stratification theory is the focus of this paper.First of all,the research on the theoretical similarity between the two is mainly discussed from two aspects:the understanding of capitalist social stratification and the thinking about the internal relationship of social stratification, and the reasons for the similarity are analyzed from the perspectives of research goals and research motivations. This paper focuses on the construction of the theoretical system. Therefore, the analysis of the differences is compared from the perspective of conceptual analysis, theoretical construction and research conclusions, and the reasons for the differences between the two people’s thoughts are deeply understood from the two dimensions of supporting background and political values. Finally, the practical enlightenment of the comparison of Marx and Weber’s social stratification theories is an extended study of this topic, which is divided into two parts:theoretical enlightenment and practical significance.Theoretical enlightenment is manifested in the unity of criticism and construction, the unity of conflict and integration, the unity of abstraction and concreteness, and the practical significance is elaborated from three perspectives:building an olive-shaped society, smoothing social mobility channels, and diversifying social strata. On the basis of theoretical research,we will promote the solution of the existing problems of social stratification in our country.
