The source text of this translation practice is from the second and third chapters of the book Basic Guide to System Safety,which introduces some basic concepts,principles and terms in the system safety discipline,so that readers can understand the basic principles of security.Based on the translation practice of this book,the translator finds that there are more passive sentences and the text is more professional and objective.Based on the information theory,the translator analyzes the information structure of the source text and study the translation methods of different types of passive sentence.In this report,the translator the analyzes and summarizes the passive structure in the source text.The translator divides the passive structure into long and short passive sentence according to the characteristics of the passive structure in the text.The translator combines the passive sentence types divided by Randolph Quirk et al.,and analyzes the long and short passives,the main passive sentences,the semi-passive sentences and the pseudo-passive sentences respectively.By analyzing the information construction of different types of passive sentences and the key points that the author wants to focus on,the translation methods of the passive voice are summarized as follows: 1)When translating long passive sentences,preposition and turning passive into active are mainly used.2)When translating short passive sentences,omission,amplification and literal translation are mainly used.3)When translating main passive,semi-passive and pseudopassive sentences,a combination of parts-of-speech conversion,turning passive into active and preposition is adopted.This report summarizes the translation methods of passive structure.It is hoped that this report can provide more help and reference for readers in the future translation process. |
