| Nowadays,what Chinese students focus mainly on are reading and writing skills when they learn English,and they do not pay enough attention to oral practice.Moreover,due to the lack of corresponding language environment,the level of spoken English of most students is generally not high.As one of the emerging media,short video with interesting,intuitive,interactive features have become more and more popular.Short video can create realistic life and social situation,allowing college students to perceive the use of language,learning to communicate in English way of think,this provides a new way for college students’ English speaking learning,students are allowed never to leave home learning authentic oral English.Short video is short,simple,and easy to access.The content of short video keeps up with the development of the times,containing a lot of practical language material.In addition,short video integrates voice,picture and text together to stimulate learners’ visual and auditory sense,improving the efficiency of the information input,which can mobilize the initiative and enthusiasm of college students’ English speaking learning.In this study,the author has taken Tiktok as an example.Based on the theoretical framework of constructivist learning theory and mobile learning theory,this study adopts questionnaire survey,experimental,and interview methods.80 college students from the four classes of the sophomore year are invited to participate in a 3-month experiment.Class One(N=48)is treated as experimental group while Class Two(N=32)is treated as control group.Through questionnaire to analyze the current situation of college students’ learning of oral English,and college students’ understanding and use of short video.Short video assisted English speaking learning is implemented in the experimental group,while conventional speaking learning method is adopted in the control group.And two questionnaires and speaking tests are conducted to explore differences in autonomous learning ability and oral performance between the experimental group using short video assisted English speaking learning and the control group that does not apply short video to oral English learning.After the completion of the second speaking test,five college students in experimental group are interviewed in detail to show their views on the use of short video to English speaking learning.The results show that: 1.The autonomous learning ability and oral English proficiency of the experimental group are better than the control group.2.The autonomous learning ability of the experimental group which use short video assisted English speaking learning has been improved,embodied in the understanding autonomous learning,learning goals,seeking help,managing the learning content and the evaluation of learning process.3.College students’ English speaking proficiency in experimental group has been improved significantly,embodied in accuracy and abundance,development and coherence,and flexibility and adaptability.4.Most college students hold a positive attitude towards the application of short video,which is more lively and interesting than traditional forms of learning to oral English learning.Based on the research,the use of short video assisted English learning can improve college students’ autonomous learning ability and oral English.This paper also reflects on the problems existing in the process of using short video assisted oral English learning,and puts forward implications and suggestions for English speaking learning. |
