| After the Nazis came to power in 1933,they carried out a series of policies to destroy culture and frame intellectuals,forcing many German art historians to flee abroad,and the United States was the place that received the most German immigrant art historians.German immigrant art historians brought new methods and advanced teachers to American art history,promoted the progress of American art history,and made it have a strong influence in the world.At the same time,they trained a large number of excellent later art historians for the United States.On the basis of mastering relevant literature and materials at home and abroad,this paper further understands the importance of humanities and the significance of learning humanities by reviewing the experiences of German art historians who immigrated to the United States during the Nazi period,as well as their academic contributions and educational achievements.There are five chapters in this paper.The first chapter describes the persecution of German intellectuals brought by Nazi Germany through a series of means.The attitude of the United States towards the German immigrant intellectuals and the efforts made to receive them.The second chapter describes the difficulties faced by German immigrant art historians in the United States and their efforts to adapt to the new environment.The third chapter first describes the development of art history in the United States before the arrival of German immigrant art historians,and then goes on to explain their outstanding academic achievements in establishing academic institutions,publishing academic works and holding academic conferences.The fourth chapter describes the educational achievements of German immigrant art historians in cultivating talents for the academic field of American art history and museums.The fifth chapter,by combing the above historical facts,gives some reflections on art history as a humanities discipline and the relationship between intellectuals and politics. |
