| Parental education anxiety is the anxious experience of parents in the process of their children’s education, which directly affects the family education environment and is not conducive to promoting the all-round development and healthy growth of adolescents. In the past many studies on parents’ educational anxiety have mostly used qualitative research methods such as interviews, with limited sample sizes, and a few researchers have taken a quantitative approach, but focused on children’s academic anxiety.Based on this, this study intends to compile a relatively complete research tool, understand the current situation of parents’ educational anxiety of middle school students, explore its category characteristics, and discuss the impact of parental education anxiety on their own life satisfaction and parent-child relationship.Study 1: To develop a parent education anxiety questionnaire covering five aspects: academic, expectancy, interpersonal, communication, physical and mental aspects, selected 200 parents of middle school students for testing, and revised to form a formal questionnaire based on the results of project analysis and exploratory factor analysis;A total of 673 valid data were collected from the formal questionnaire, and the results of reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, network model analysis and calibration validity analysis showed that the questionnaire had good reliability and validity.Study 2: The self-compiled Parent Education Anxiety Questionnaire of Middle School Students, the Life Satisfaction Scale(SWLS)compiled by Diener et al.,the Parent-Child Relationship Questionnaire of Middle School Students(parents answered)compiled by Wu Jixia et al.,and the State Anxiety Questionnaire compiled by Spielberger et al.were used to test parents of middle school students in different regions,815 valid data were recovered, and the data analysis results showed that:(1)Overall,at present, the educational anxiety of parents is at the upper middle level, and there was a correlation between educational anxiety and local location, parents’ income, and children’s academic performance.(2)The results of latent cross-sectional analysis showed that there were three categories of parental education anxiety, namely“overall low anxiety group”,“comprehensive high anxiety group”and“partial high anxiety group”.Different types of educational anxiety varied significantly in variables such as region, parent occupation, parent education, parent income, and children’s achievements.(3)In the dimensions of parents’ educational anxiety, anxiety levels were expected anxiety, academic anxiety, physical and mental anxiety, communication anxiety, and interpersonal anxiety in descending order. The various levels of anxiety in the lives of parents are, from high to low, economic anxiety, parental support anxiety, education anxiety, health anxiety, social anxiety, and work anxiety.(4)Parents’ education anxiety was significantly correlated with parent-child relationship, life satisfaction, and state anxiety, and there were significant differences between different categories.Parents’ anxiety about education can negatively predict parent-child relationship and life satisfaction. The following conclusions were drawn from this study:(1)Most parents of middle school students still have educational anxiety, however, the category characteristics vary;(2)The main cause of parents’ education anxiety is excessive expectations for their children’s education;(3)Parental education anxiety can negatively predict parent-child relationship and life satisfaction. |
