| The sudden COVID-19 epidemic has forced Chinese teaching to turn online.Driven by this,Interactive Analysis Theory has gained new attention, and the research on Conversation Negotiation in teaching Chinese as a second language has gradually become a newfound phenomenon. The majority of previously conducted studies on Conversion Negotiation have focused on lessons conducted in a classroom, while research on non-classroom lessons are still in its infancy stage. As a cross-cultural communication platform, the Chinese Corner proves to be representative in providing a large linguistic data for Conversation Negotiation. The purpose of this study is to observe and analyze the Conversation Negotiation practices in online Chinese Corner of Zhejiang University from the perspective of cross-cultural communication. The study uses qualitative research methods and the research approaches of Conversation Analysis.By participating in and recording the online Chinese Corner of Zhejiang University, realistic corpus was obtained. On this basis, the negotiation corpus was divided into negotiation of meaning, negotiation of content and negotiation of form.Subsequently, characteristics of different types of the Negotiation Act were analyzed. Finally, this study makes a comparative study on classroom Conversation Negotiation based on the academic research results. The main finding of the research is that the distribution of negotiation types in online Chinese Corner are different from that in regular Chinese classrooms.Influenced by the rules of speech such as turn taking and principle politeness in conversation, there are also one-way negotiations of meaning and implicit negotiations of meaning besides the regular one.The analysis of the content negotiation confirms the interactive hypothesis proposed by Long(1983).Even if the negotiation is not successful, the overall negotiation process increases the language speaking abilities of the learners and promote further learning. In terms of the negotiation of form, participants in the Chinese Corner have a higher tolerance to making language errors, however the number of form negotiation is overall small. There were several forms of formal negotiations between the pursuit of linguistic form and the observance of politeness principle. The negotiation act in the Chinese Corner has two major characteristics in comparison to Chinese oral class.First, the language of the Chinese Corner is open.Participants accept various language forms with an open and inclusive attitude, and the relaxed atmosphere encourages non-native speakers to express freely.Second, the turn taking in the Chinese Corner is more complex. In the Chinese language class, most teachers control the turn taking while students passively cooperate, however,in the Chinese Corner the direction of interaction negotiation is diverse. The conversation has obvious cross-cultural characteristics. |
