Research And Exploration On The Design Of Contemporary Linear Bound Books Under The Concept Of Sustainable Design

The prosperity of the book publishing industry in contemporary China marks the progress of the society.The mechanization of large-scale production and mass production of books bring great convenience to people’s reading and learning.But on the other side of this boom,we should see that printing is one of the highly polluting industries,with a series of environmental problems such as paper waste and ink pollution.With the launch of the 17 Goals for Sustainable Development by the United Nations,various industries are responding and exploring how to take the first steps towards sustainable development.In addition to the standard quantitative modern printing technology invented by Gutenberg a hundred years ago,China’s printing industry also has traditional handmade bound book production technology.This kind of traditional technology is not only composed of natural and simple book materials,but also full of cultural connotation of humanistic spirit,which may be a good expression and presentation of sustainable design attributes.Therefore,it is of positive significance for The Times to explore whether the development of book design based on the contemporary and even the future can be carried out from the perspective of advocating sustainable design.Firstly,the thesis starts from the background of sustainable design concept to clarify the elements and principles of sustainable design concept.Secondly,through the analysis and interpretation of the design form of contemporary thread-bound books,the sustainable attribute of thread-bound books is analyzed.At the same time,the demand of readers for thread-bound books is investigated and readers are found.On the premise of clear needs,this paper discusses how to integrate the concept of sustainable design into the design strategy of contemporary thread-bound books,that is,sustainable design strategy based on binding optimization,function transformation and value enhancement,which provides three possibilities for the design of contemporary thread-bound books to start from the sustainable development.Finally,the design practice of the Four Gentlemen series of books will be verified in the sustainable design theory of contemporary linear book design.It also explores how to preserve and develop the design language of linear bound books in the contemporary book design and production environment,so that they have more value attributes of sustainable design.
