Interpretation Of The Characteristics Of Magical Realism In Gu Yasina's Novel "My Children

Magic realism first appeared in the field of painting in Germany in 1925,and then gradually expanded to other cultural fields.In 1954,Angel Flores,a Costa Rican scholar in the United States,formally proposed magic realism as a literary school and literary theory.Magic realism is a kind of literature that “turns reality into magic without losing the truth of the reality.” The ultimate purpose for adopting "magic" technique in the work is to reflect and expose the social reality.The most prominent feature of magic realism is the magic content and the expression techniques of magic reality.Russian writer Guzel Shamilevna Yakhina(1977-),one of the rare new stars in the Russian literary circle in recent years.As of 2022,Yashina has published three full-length novels,namely Zuleiha Opens His Eyes,My Children and Echelon of Samarkand.Among them,My Children,which was completed in 2018,is the authors second masterpiece after her first full-length nove Zuleiha Opens His Eyes and has won a series of Russian literary awards,including the Big Book Prize.The writer,combing fiction and reality,tells the life of Bach,a German-speaking village teacher,in the hinterland of the Volga River,revealing the profound perception of the meaning of life and the nature of existence of the German-Russian people,as well as the rise and fall of collective farms and individual fortunes in the Soviet Union in the 1920 s and 1930 s.The novel has attracted much attention in the academic world for its magical and realistic characters,plot and expression techniques.From the perspective of magic realism,this thesis intends to use the method of literature collection,induction and summation,and text analysis to show the characteristics of magic realism in the characters names,characters behaviors,plots and themes in the work,and analyze the use of magic realism techniques such as space-time interlacing and metaphor writing in the work.Through the research,it is concluded that the novel My Children is a work of magic realism.
