A Study On Wang Meng’s "The Picture Of Taibai Mountain" And Its Copy Problems

Wang Meng is one of the most gifted artists in the history of Chinese art.The painting of Taibai Mountain,which is collected by Liaoning Provincial Museum,has always been regarded as the representative work of Wang Meng’s learning of Jinghao and Guan Tong’s colorful landscapes.However,due to the lack of data,there are few studies on Wang Meng’s works.This paper attempts to conduct a comprehensive study of Taibai Mountain Painting,and discusses the existing problems of this painting on the basis of previous scholars.This paper consists of four chapters.The first chapter introduces several problems in Wang Meng’s life and discusses the existing three paintings of Taibai Mountain.In the second chapter,from the perspective of collecting history,we discuss the circumstances behind "Taibai Mountain Painting" which we have not considered before.The third chapter is mainly based on the topography and architecture of Taibai Mountain,combined with local print illustrations.It is believed that Wang Meng’s Painting of Taibai Mountain probably referred to the map of Taibai Mountain in the previous generation,rather than a simple sketch of real life.The fourth chapter focuses on the textual research of the original of Taibai Mountain Painting.There are many connections between these copies but they are all fakes,reflecting the various "efforts" made by the forgers around Wang Meng’s Painting of Taibai Mountain.
