The “Red Classics”,as the mainstream literary works of a particular period in New China,have shaped the image of times and forged the spirit of the great socialist revolution.As anexample of “Red Classics”literary works,the “Seventeen Years”themed oil paintings of of New China has become a strong stroke in the history of modern Chinese art,highlighting the artistic glamour of the times and the timeless aesthetic experience.This paper will focus on the creation of the “Seventeen Years” themed oil paintings.And it taking Mao Zedong’s arts thoughts behind the creation as a clue that with the purpose of exploring the historical,national and artistic nature of the thematic oil painting creation in this period.In addition,with the help of the research methods of art sociology and iconography,and combined with writer’s own perspective as a painting practicioner,this paper will discuss the reasons,creative paths and narrative representations in which the “Seventeen Years” themed oil paintings can be a classic in the era.By defining the meaning of “Red Classics”and “thematic creations”,this paper will mention the causes,organization model and creation methods of the“Seventeen Years” themed oil paintings.In the meantime,through analyzing specific historical materials and works,epurate the aesthetic narrative representation of thematic oil painting creation.This paper tries to grasp the basic context of the thematic oil painting creation in a specific era,with identifying the typical charateristics of the “Seventeen Years” themed oil paintings’ the creation path and aesthetic narrative.In this way,writer can take the opportunity of the research results to feed back into his own creative practice.
