Action Research On The Application Of Production-oriented Approach To Summary Writing Teaching In Senior High School

As one of the writing forms in the new college entrance examination,summary writing can effectively cultivate students’ reading and writing ability and comprehensive English proficiency.However,many teachers pay less attention to summary writing and ignore its nature of integrating writing and reading.Students do not want to actively practice summary writing tension,heartbeat racing,brain blank and other phenomena often appear.Students copy the original and can not distinguish the primary and secondary information.As a result,students have lower summary writing motivation,higher anxiety and lower performance.Based on the production-oriented approach,the author carries out three rounds of action research on summary writing teaching for one semester.The subjects are 42 students in a class of grade one of DB middle school in Shandong Province.In the research process,the author uses the questionnaire,interview and test to collect data,and uses SPSS26.0 for data analysis.Three research questions are proposed:(1)How to apply the production-oriented approach to summary writing teaching in senior high school?(2)What is the impact of applying the production-oriented approach to summary writing teaching on students’ summary writing motivation and anxiety?(3)What is the impact of applying the production-oriented approach to summary writing teaching on students’ summary writing performance?The results of the action research are listed as follows.(1)The production-oriented approach can be applied to summary writing teaching.In the motivating stage,the teacher creates a real communication situation to stimulate students’ learning desires.In the enabling stage,the teacher guides students’ understanding of the key information,the structure and language features.In the assessing stage,the students revise their products through Teacher-Student Collaborative Assessment.(2)Summary writing teaching based on the production-oriented approach can stimulate students’ summary writing motivation and relieve students’ summary writing anxiety.Students’ nervousness of summary writing is relieved.They attach more importance to summary writing and gained more satisfaction from it.(3)Summary writing teaching based on the production-oriented approach can improve students’ summary writing performance.After the action research,the average score and pass rate of students’ summary writing have been improved.Students master the writing steps clearly and distinguish the information correctly.They can build the structure and rewrite the key information according to the language style.The phenomenon of copying the original and incomplete points has been greatly reduced.This study applies the production-oriented approach to summary writing teaching,which has certain theoretical and practical value.First,it enriches the research field of summary writing,and provides a new path for the research of summary writing.Second,it improves the teaching way of summary writing in practice and provides new thinking for teachers to carry out summary writing teaching.Students’ summary writing performance can also be improved by the effective method.
