A Research On The Relationship Between Personality Functioning,borderline Personality And Suicide

Suicide is a global public health problem,and personality is a potential risk factor for suicide,particularly the severity of personality pathology and psychological structures related to self and interpersonal relationships.This study investigated the relationship between the level of personality functioning,maladaptive traits of borderline personality and suicide ideation,suicide attempt from the perspective of personality dimension.In this study,the reliability and validity of the Level of Personality Functioning Scale-Brief Form 2.0(LPFS-BF 2.0)was tested in Chinese college students.A sample of 539 college students were administrated the Chinese version of Level of Personality Functioning Scale-Brief Form 2.0.Besides,Symptom Scale(SCL-10),Personality Inventory for DSM-5-Brief Form(PID-5-BF),and Chinese Big Five Personality Inventory-15(CBF-PI-15)were used as criterion-related indicators.Secondly,the role of level of personality functioning in the relationship between borderline personality and suicide was explored by using the Chinese version of LPFS-BF2.0.A total of 539 college students were tested by Suicide Behavior Screening Questionnaire(SBSQ)and the revised Five-Factor Borderline Inventory-Short Form(FFBI-SF).Statistical methods such as correlation analysis,difference test and linear regression were used to analyze the data,and SPSS was used to input,organize and analyze the data.This study draws the following results:1.The analysis results of the Level of Personality Functioning Scale-Brief Form2.0(LPFS-BF2.0)were consistent with psychometric indicators and had good reliability and validity in the sample of Chinese college students,which could be used as an effective tool to assess the level of personality functioning.2.The total score of borderline personality and its sub-dimension were positively correlated with suicidal ideation and suicide attempt.Self-functioning and interpersonal functioning were positively correlated with suicide ideation and suicide attempt.The total score of borderline personality and its dimensions were positively correlated with self-functioning and interpersonal functioning.3.Interpersonal functioning has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between the total score of borderline personality and suicide attempt.Compared with low level of interpersonal functioning,the high level of interpersonal functioning can enhance the prediction of borderline personality total score on suicide attempt.4.Self-functioning and interpersonal functioning significantly moderated the relationship between despondence and suicidal ideation,and interpersonal functioning significantly moderated the relationship between despondence,manipulativeness,fragility,distrustfulness,anxious uncertainty and suicide attempt.Specifically,compared with low level of self-functioning or interpersonal functioning,the high level of self-functioning and interpersonal functioning enhanced the positive prediction of despondence on suicidal ideation;the high level of Interpersonal functioning enhanced the positive prediction of despondence,fragility,and manipulativeness on suicide attempt,and weaken the negative prediction of distrustfulness,anxious uncertainty on suicide attempt.The following conclusions can be drawn:1.The level of Personality Functioning Scale brief Version 2.0 Chinese versioncan be used as an effective tool to evaluate the level of personalityfunctioning of Chinese college students.2.The higher the level of borderline personality,the more serious theimpairment of personality functioning,and the more likely the individual isto have suicidal ideation and suicide attempt.3.The relationship between borderline personality and suicidal ideation,suicide attempts is influenced by the level of personality functioning,and ismore influenced by interpersonal functioning than self-functioning...
