Abstract/Summary:
This paper focuses on the common modal adverbs"Dang Ran"(当然),"Gu Ran"(固然)and"Zi Ran"(自然)in modern Chinese. From the synchronic level, this paper mainly studies the syntactic, semantic and pragmatic features of the following three words:"Dang Ran"(当然),"Gu Ran"(固然)and"Zi Ran"(自然).Then we try our best to compare and do a deep research on them.Carry out in-depth comparative study with the goal of exploring its commonness and individuality. The first part of this article analyzes and compares"Dang Ran"(当然),"Gu Ran"(固然)and"Zi Ran"(自然)at the syntactic level, which mainly involves its syntactic distribution characteristics and syntactic function distribution. The former put emphasis on the distribution of the position and types of the sentence, while the latter attaches importance to sentence elements and co-occurrence.The second section mainly does a semantic research on"Dang Ran"(当然),"Gu Ran"(固然)and"Zi Ran"(自然).We analyzes and compares the similarities and differences among them from the following three aspects:semantic history evolution, function and orientation.Firstly, from the aspect of semantic history evolution,we mainly discuss the diachronic semantic evolution.Secondly,we mainly study their basic semantics and semantic functions involving semantic function.Thirdly, semantic direction and semantic object are our main subjects of study. The third part of this paper compares"Dang Ran"(当然),"Gu Ran"(固然)and"Zi Ran"from the perspective of pragmatics. On the one hand, pragmatic functions mainly involve the following function:emphasis, marker, trigger presupposition and so on.One the other hand, the analysis of textual cohensive function mainly includes the composition of cohesive sentences to form a single or complex sentence.
