Nepalese Paubha painting is one of the most important traditional arts in Nepal. These paintings are visual representations of Buddhist thought and philosophy. The Buddhist images depicted in Paubha paintings are based on the iconographic rules mentioned in ancient Buddhist texts.Although this art form holds an important place in Nepalese art,it is less well-known compared to its counterpart Thangka painting. As neighboring countries,Nepal and China have had many cross-cultural exchanges in the past, which has led to the exchange and mutual influence in the arts between the two countries. Both countries have a rich source of traditional Buddhist art, which originated from similarities but later developed their own distinct styles and identities. This study aims to introduce the iconography of Paubha paintings and explain its Buddhist images, and compare them with Buddhist images in Chinese paintings.Art of both countries were originally based on Buddhist ideas, but later with time,Chinese paintings combined with Chinese native Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism and new styles of painting were developed, while Nepalese painting retained more primitive Buddhist influences.
