Currently,English interpreting is a popular subject of study.According to Daniel Gile’s Effort Model,in simultaneous interpretation, the interpreter needs to take into account the effort distribution among the listening, memory, production, and coordination. In consecutive interpreting,as with simultaneous interpreting, the interpreter just replaces the production with note-taking.The problem of effort distribution among interpreters during the interpreting process has become a key factor in a good interpreting. For tyros in interpreting, listening is the most important part of information input. Most novice interpreters suffered listening impairments, which can lead to poor or interrupted interpreting. Therefore, taking Gile’s effort model as the theory, the author investigates the problems of junior interpreters’ poor listening in English-Chinese classroom and analyzes the listening materials for English-Chinese classroom interpreting practice and students’ corresponding performance, aiming to find out factors leading to listening barriers and related problems that affect the quality of interpreting. On this basis, the author goes on to explore the listening training mode suitable for beginner interpreters.Through comprehensive research,it is found that the main reasons for the listening impairment of beginner interpreters include excessive accent of the source language and low professional level of interpreters. For novice interpreters,it is necessary to make adequate preparation before listening,to ensure reasonable distribution of energy during listening, and to strengthen comprehensive encyclopedic knowledge after listening. The main components of training are sensitivity to listening and concentration on effort. In addition, interpreters need to reinforce the training of short-term memory,note-taking skills, coordinating ability. The core of the training lies in interpreters’ efforts to ensure the reasonable distribution of energy between listening and speaking. It is hoped that this thesis can provide a reference for beginners in interpretation as to establishing a practical training model which is conducive to improving their listening effectiveness.
