As a creative director,Stan Lai from the early establishment of the "Performance Workshop" in Taiwan to the establishment of the "Theatre Above" in Shanghai,he exported theatrical works with extremely high frequency and quality, and his creations have won a high reputation in Taiwan,Asia and even the world. After 2006,Stan Lai gradually shifted his creative focus to the mainland, and the types of creations in this period included: old works and new arrangements, newly created plays, and directing other people’s works.Among them, the most important component is the re-rehearsal of the old works, and the works in this part clearly present the "localization" creative personality of Stan Lai’s drama, and also reflect the expectation perspective and cultural psychology contained in the "acceptance" of audiences on both sides of the strait.Based on this, this paper makes a comprehensive study on the variation of the versions of the seven new and old works staged by Stan Lai in the mainland and the acceptance of the audience. The first chapter explores Stan Lai’s criteria for selecting old works for rearrangement on the mainland and the reasons for modifying old works. From the two aspects of "external environment" and "subject consciousness",and the unity of "adapting to survival" and "audience-oriented",the reasons for Stan Lai’s "old works and new arrangements" and the selection criteria of dramas are traced back to the source. The second chapter focuses on the specific modification of Stan Lai’s "old works and new rows" works in the mainland period, examines in detail the additions, deletions, and adjustments made in the content and form of the works of the "old works and new rows",summarizes the diversified direction of Stan Lai’s "old works and new rows" revisions, and explores the problems of "star effect" and "localization" mixing and matching through the analysis of the implementation process of "old works and new rows".The third chapter focuses on the acceptance of Stan Lai’s "old works and new rows" works in the mainland period, and reflects on the deep-seated psychological, regional, and cultural problems behind them from the audience’s evaluation.
