Jian’an book engraving has developed unprecedentedly since the Song and Yuan Dynasties,which is one of the national engraving centers.The prosperity of Jianyang engraving book industry provides favorable conditions for the development of its woodcut illustrations.After the war at the end of the Yuan Dynasty,Jian’an engravings declined,and Jianyang engravings took their place to inherit the Jian’an engraving book business,on the basis of that,thus forming the Jian’an school of prints centered on Jianyang.Therefore,Jianyang prints have a status as a link between the past and the future in the history of ancient illustrations,which is quite characterized by the times.Jianyang prints developed unprecedentedly in the Ming Dynasty,and at the same time,the flourishing of civic culture in the Ming Dynasty gave birth to the development of opera culture.Opera books and prints gradually moved to the desks of contemporary people for appreciation.Therefore,Jianyang Bookstore in Ming Dynasty followed the traditional painting and engraving,thus forming a unique style of opera printmaking.The dissemination of Jianyang print illustrations and Jian’an carving copy promoted each other,and the illustrations of operas were spread and had far-reaching influence overseas.Compared with other engraving centers in the regions south of the Yangtze River,the illustrations in Jian’an carving copy have always been unique in their robustness,simplicity,innocence and nature.In the late Ming Dynasty,the regional styles of Jianyang opera illustrations gradually diversified,showing a trend of change and reaching its peak.Since then,the overall engraving and calligraphy industry in Jianyang has declined.Compared with novel prints,Jianyang opera prints have received less attention.Especially in the field of art history and printmaking research,the general style of Jianyang prints is often mentioned in one stroke.In fact,Jianyang opera prints have their own distinct characteristics compared to novel prints,and different historical developments.By going deep into the specific and historical care of the illustrations of Jianyang opera,this paper more closely grasps the clues of the historical development of the illustrations of Jianyang opera,and shows its true style characteristics and the trajectory of its formation.This paper takes Jianyang opera prints as the research object,takes the Jianyang engraving book industry in the Ming Dynasty and the opera printmaking in the Jiangnan area as the background,from the emergence,prosperity and decline of Jianyang opera prints,attempts to analyze the style characteristics and characteristics of Jianyang opera prints in the Ming Dynasty to comprehensively explore and clarify the rich overall appearance and uniqueness of Jianyang opera prints.
