| Since the Meiji Restoration,Japan has been pursuing a policy of "enriching the country, strengthening the army and civilising and enlightening",which has led to a wave of academic research on China, while China has been in a semi-colonial and semi-feudal state after the Opium Wars and the Sino-Japanese War,which led to a weakening of the country.Chinese lacquer art had been developing slowly since the end of the Ming Dynasty, and in the 19 th century, when the domestic environment was in turmoil, there was a lack of support for the study of traditional culture, and there was less academic research on lacquer art.At this time,Japan was expanding abroad, and as its aggressive intentions towards China grew,it sent a large number of scholars to China to conduct field research into various aspects of Chinese lacquer craftsmanship.Japanese scholars compiled a number of books of research on Chinese lacquer art, which are the focus of this study and the first precious documents on lacquer art research in modern craft history, and are of great significance to the development of Chinese lacquer art. This study adopts a documentary and comparative research approach to collate and analyse modern Japanese collections of Chinese lacquer craft literature, and explores the background and overview of Japanese research on modern Chinese lacquer craft literature.Beginning with the background of Japanese research on Chinese lacquer art in the modern period, the study builds a systematic understanding of the background of Japanese expeditions to China in the modern period by understanding the cultural development and flow of lacquer art in China and Japan, and the forms of exchange of learning and reflexivity. The second part provides a categorised overview of Chinese lacquer literature in the Japanese collection. The documents are divided into three categories according to their type: expedition reports, essay writings, and physical images.By sorting out the chronology of the documents, the publishing institutions and government organisations,as well as the geographical and cultural relevance of the documents, the general composition of the collection is summarised and a systematic understanding of the study of the documents is established. The third part is a case study of the Japanese collection of lacquer literature, which examines the modern Japanese market research and import/export status of raw lacquer to China on the one hand, and an in-depth analysis of the archaeological research of Japanese master craftsmen on Chinese lacquer art on the other.A comprehensive understanding of the modern Japanese trade in Chinese lacquer is presented, together with an examination of Chinese lacquer and the development of innovation in the country’s lacquer art.The paper concludes with a discussion of the value of the Japanese collection of Chinese lacquer craft literature, providing insight into the importance and significance of this collection to contemporary research on lacquer culture.Through the study of this paper,it is possible to learn that the examination of Chinese lacquer culture in Japan during the modern period was not limited to the craft itself, but also included research on regional history, ethnic culture, the origin of raw materials, archaeological excavations and other aspects, providing a more scientific and multifaceted perspective on the development of lacquer art in China, and is an extremely valuable research resource for the Chinese academic community today. The research in this paper helps to sort out the ways and contents of modern Japanese research on Chinese lacquer art, which is a great reference for the development path of Chinese lacquer art research and provides new research ideas. |
