| The exploration of performance art in China began in the second half of the 1980 s and saw a spurt of development in the 1990 s,a period when the traditional ethical and moral structure of society disintegrated and a pluralistic ethical situation emerged. In the past, studies that analyzed performance art from the ethical and moral level mostly focused on performance art that lacked a sense of direction, was "violent" and "bloody," and had moral flaws, and made value judgments about the ethical and moral phenomena in the process of its behavior. This study takes all Chinese performance art as the research object, and likewise starts from the level of ethics and morality to study the ethical issues of Chinese performance art, using ethics as a clue to explore the whole process of the production activities of performance art.It aims to clarify the ethical background of the era of performance art creation, the ethical motivation of the artist, the ethical behavior choice of the artist’s creation process, the ethical tendencies presented by the performance art works, and the ethical problems existing in the creation process, etc.Through ethical issue research,it aims to delve into the ethical connotations of all levels of performance art,and ultimately evaluate the merits and demerits of performance art in an objective and rational manner.Chinese performance art is mainly characterized by the ethical tendency of individualism and the ethical tendency of holism. The ethical tendency of individualism can be divided into three directions, one of which is the autonomy of the creator’s artistic concept that advocates complete control of art by the individual when conceiving, the second is the irrational tendency in the use of the medium of performance art,and the third is the extreme individualistic tendency caused by the over-emphasis on individuality in the creation process. The ethical tendency of holism can also be separated into three layers according to different focuses: the first is the humanistic concern that exalts social responsibility, the second is the ecological concern that calls for the protection of the ecological environment, and the third is the feminist concern that focuses on the "other".Finally,a study of the ethical tendencies of performance art in China reveals that performance art has specific ethical problems of avoiding the sublime, prevailing utilitarianism, and deviating from morality. This leads to the importance and urgency of reconstructing the ethical values of performance art and making a reconstruction of the ethical values of Chinese performance art, which should be combined with the ethics of the times and with beauty in a broad sense. |
