The Influence Of Materials Use On The Visual Expression Of Contemporary Gongbi Painting Creation

Gongbi painting has a long history,beginning with the painting of figures on silk during the Warring States period,developing rapidly during the Tang Dynasty,and continuing to the present day after the maturation of the style during the Song Dynasty,and occupying a pivotal position in the history of Chinese painting.Before the Yuan Dynasty,silk was widely used as the base material for painting,and most of the brush paintings at that time were painted in heavy colors,with the use of mineral,vegetable,and gold and silver colors,making the picture flamboyant and colorful,which was loved by the ruling class.After the Yuan Dynasty,with the improvement of productivity and the maturity of papermaking,the good moistening of Xuan paper was in line with the pursuit of brushwork and charm of the literati painters at that time,and paintings on paper began to appear in large numbers.Nowadays,exchanges between Chinese and foreign cultures are becoming more frequent,and contemporary aesthetic concepts are beginning to diversify.Influenced by foreign art styles,the pigments used in the creation of brush painting have increased from traditional mineral and vegetable colors to watercolor,high-temperature crystalline pigments and chemical synthetic pigments,and the substrates are no longer limited to rice paper and silk.It can be seen that the use of different materials affects the artistic expression of brush painting,and the creation of brush painting is never a mere mixing of various painting materials.As a medium for creation,materials can be used rationally to produce different visual effects and thus complete the expression of painting style.This thesis takes the evolution of the style of brush painting accompanied by the development of materials as an example,combines the changes of the times,and discusses the influence of the use of materials on the expression of visual effects through the analysis of typical contemporary painters and their representative paintings and my own feelings of creation on a regular basis,in order to provide reference and ideas for the subsequent creative practice.
