Information leakage are very common and unavoidable phenomenon in simultaneous interpretation.Based on the importance and necessity of souce language information,Information leakage can be classified as ‘minor information leakage’ or ‘serious information leakage’.‘Minor information leakage’ do not affect the listener’s understanding and grasp of the souce language,so they are acceptable in simultaneous interpreting.While ‘serious information leakage’ can result in a significant lack of information in the source language,thus making it difficult for the listener to understand the source language information.The information leakage discussed in this thesis fall into the category of ‘serious information leakage’.The case study in this paper is a mock conference on International Digital Trade:The Coming Battle of the Powers.After transcribing the source language and the translated language,the author sorted out the information leakage and counted the number of information leakage.After making a clear distinction between ‘minor information leakage’ and ‘serious information leakage’,the author analysed the causes of the information leakage in terms of the overload of speech production,the overload of the short-term memory and the overload of the coordination,according to Gill’s Effort Model.And the author selects representative examples from the translations to analyse the causes of overload in each of these areas in depth.Finally,the thesis offers some strategies to improve information leakage.Specific improvement strategies include: in the translation output segment,strengthening shadow reading training and extensive reading of Korean texts to improve translation output speed and ability;in the short-term memory segment,strengthening the practice of repetition without notes to improve short-term memory ability and using notes as an aid to reduce short-term memory burden;in the coordination task segment,simultaneous listening and speaking training and rational use of interpretation strategies to improve coordination ability.At present,there are not enough research results on the phenomenon of information leakage in the Chinese-Korean simultaneous interpreting.The author hopes that this study will provide some reference and learning value for other interpreting learners while answering her own confusion and improving her own interpreting ability. |
