Amidst the wave of globalization, the Chinese Standards of English Language Ability(CSE)emerged, meeting the demands of the present-day and empowering Chinese people with the necessary linguistic proficiency to succeed in an interconnected world.CSE developers innovatively developed the Interpreting Ability Scale, which gave a new impetus to the development of interpreting research. However, there is a lack of research on the validity of the Interpreting Ability Scale in the current academic community, which seriously affects the use and promotion of the scale. This study aims to investigate the concurrent validity of the Interpreting Ability Scale and to fill the research gap in this area.In this study,a combination of quantitative and qualitative analyses was used to verify the concurrent validity of the Overall Interpreting Ability Scale(OIAS)and the Self-Assessment Scale for Interpreting Ability(SASIA): two interpreting experiments were conducted, two assessment questionnaires were developed based on SASIA and OIAS,a tripartite assessment containing self-assessment,teacher assessment, and expert assessment was conducted, and interviews were conducted to investigate the results and reasons. The results showed that both scales had high concurrent validity, and both students and teachers could use the scales to make accurate assessments of interpreting ability.Meanwhile, based on the interview results, this study analyzed and summarized the strengths and weaknesses of the scales, and made suggestions for their improvement. This study verified the concurrent validity of the Interpreting Ability Scale, and contributed to the development of the Interpreting Ability Scale in the process of interpreting teaching, assessment, and testing.
