During the post-May 4th period, the new and old festivals in Qingdao area were reflected with different cultural connotations and became an important time node in the daily life of the people. As a special cultural carrier, festivals often reflect political and economic aspects.Teachers’ Day,New Year’s Day and other traditional festivals are in full swing in Qingdao, and the Spring Festival,Dragon Boat Festival and other traditional festivals are also being updated and changed. The new festival is an intervention measure taken by the government to strengthen the national consciousness and political authority, and to weaken the harm caused by the obstinacy of traditional festivals in a modern position. The old festivals are the old local characteristics that the people stick to in order to adhere to traditional habits and resist the impact of modernization. As the main position of public opinion, the Qingdao Times truthfully recorded the different performances of new and old festivals, and restored a modern Qingdao society with festivals as clues. The social life in the festivals in Qingdao clearly reflects the different status of the government in the new and old festivals. The expectation of the government has a distance from the folk reality.Because of the existence of the distance,it also causes many practical problems. Some people have paid attention to the problems in festival life, and discussed the causes. At the same time, these problems have also become the response to the trend of the times when Qingdao’s urban civilization was transforming to modernization in this period. To sum up,the festival, with its unique attributes, shows the social life of Qingdao people in a special period.
