As one of the saints of China,Dayu has become a symbol of the spirit of the Chinese nation with his dedication to the welfare of the people,his courage to explore and seek truth from reality,his entrepreneurial spirit of hard work and perseverance,and the spirit of national unity and harmony for the common development of the Kyushu family.In the process of extolling his deeds and admiring his spirit,people in later generations used techniques such as lines,colors,and modeling to draw portraits of the Great Yu,outline stories such as the Great Yu’s flood control,the settlement of Jiuzhou,the meeting of the vassals at Tushan,and the casting of Jiuding,resulting in numerous "images of the Great Yu.".These images,in a form different from written records,embody people’s imagination of the appearance of the Great Yu,carry people’s understanding and understanding of the story of the Great Yu in different times,and express people’s recognition,interpretation,and promotion of the spirit of the Great Yu.They are an important component of the formation and development history of the Great Yu literature and the "Great Yu Spirit",and are also an important visual symbol of the humanistic spirit of the Chinese nation,with important value.As an important source of images of the Great Yu,there are a large number of written records about the Great Yu in ancient books and records during the Pre Qin,Han,Wei,Jin,and Six Dynasties periods.In these records,the Great Yu was also known as Yu,Xia Yu,and Rong Yu.He took the Si surname and was named Wenming,who was the leader of the Xia Hou clan.At the command of Emperor Shun,he managed floods,dredged rivers,built ditches,and developed agriculture.After thirteen years of water control,I passed through my house three times without entering.Later,due to his meritorious efforts in controlling the water,he was elected heir by Shun.Dayu delineated Jiuzhou,forged Jiuding,ended the social organizational form of tribal alliance in primitive society,established the hereditary monarchy,and pioneered the new social and political form of "state" in Chinese history.Later generations,people drew on these records and developed drawings.The images of the Great Yu in ancient China can be roughly divided into two categories: portrait and story images.This paper hopes to make an in-depth study of the image and story of the Great Yu in the images and written documents of the Great Yu,and further reveal the intrinsic relationship between the deeds of the Great Yu and the spirit of the Chinese nation.The first part: comb the life story of Dayu,summarize his birth,flood control,and family relations,and explore the historical origin of Dayu.The second part: Examining the richness and diversity of the images of Dayu during the diachronic process,collecting and sorting out the portraits of individuals and groups of Dayu.The third part: Investigate the richness and diversity of the images of Dayu during the diachronic process,and collect and sort out the story images of Dayu’s deeds such as controlling floods,opening mountains,and expediting wars.The fourth part: Analysis of the dissemination value of the image of the Great Yu.From a literary perspective,the image of the Great Yu tells the story of the Great Yu to the public,shaping the image of the ancestor of Chinese humanity,which has different meanings for official rulers,creators,and viewers;In terms of artistic value,the schematic styles of Dayu’s images are rich and diverse,leaving rich artistic resources for the art treasure house and enriching artistic themes;From the perspective of literature value,the image of the Great Yu complements the image and story of the Great Yu in textual records,and is also an indispensable part of historical literature.
