Before and After the Revolution is in the marginal area of Guo Moruo’s literary research, and the number of studies on its version is limited. In the face of many versions of Before and After the Revolution, previous researchers chose different versions,if not careful selection of versions, the research results will be inaccurate. The way to avoid the research trap of Before and After the Revolution lies in placing Before and After the Revolution in a historical context, and exploring the process of dynamic generation and evolution of the text on this basis. In the introduction part, the previous studies on Before and After the Revolution are summarized, the previous studies are classified, the research value and urgency of the version are explained in view of the omissions in the research, and the version pedigree of Before and After the Revolution is sorted out.The first chapter takes the first edition and the renaming of the book as the research object to discuss Guo Moruo’s thought of helping the world as an intellectual in crisis.During the creation of the first edition,Guo Moruo consciously introduced the discourse style into his autobiography, resulting in the transformation of his autobiography, and the historical facts were reorganized to serve to rebuild Guo Moruo’s "rebel" image. The name change was the product of a disguised attempt to evade censorship. The second chapter takes the author’s book and his boyhood book as the research object to explore the influence of the war situation in the 1940 s on the text.In the context of the unified Anti-Japanese War,the author’s library concealed the revolutionary discourse and weakened the revolutionary nature of the text through the adaptation of the articles. The Boyhood edition restores the revolutionary discourse of the first edition and makes an artistic perfection of the text. The third chapter takes the anthology of Before and After the Revolution as the research object to examine the author’s subversion of the first edition in the context of the new era.By "forgetting" the "old self",Guo Moruo created the "new self" conforming to the literary norms of the new period. The fourth chapter takes the anthology and the complete anthology as the research object to discuss the canonization of the anthology after Guo Moruo’s death. On the basis of maintaining the last edition of the author’s life, the anthology and the complete works are supplemented around the text.Due to the influence of ideology in the process of annotation, the complete works intentionally cover up the whole picture of the versions and different texts, and there are many problems. This paper tries to give solutions. Finally, the conclusion of this paper summarizes the reasons for the emergence of different texts in each version and sorts out the evolution of versions.
