A Report On The E-C Translation Of Flame-Retardent Thermoset Nanocomposite For Engineering Application(Excerpts)

Thermoset nanocomposites are currently the focus of research in materials,and its low-cost raw materials are easy to get.With their wide application in the fields of construction,chemical industry,transportation,and electricity,the research on their flame-retardant properties and mechanism has received increasing attention in China.Therefore,it is quite valuable to translate such related materials.The translation report is written based on the author’s English-Chinese translation of the article Flame Retardant Thermoset Nanocomposites for Engineering Applications.The Translation Shifts Theory proposed by Catford is taken as the guiding theory in the author’s translation practice.The report discusses two perspectives: level shifts and category shifts.The Level shifts mainly involve plural and aspect.The Category shifts are discussed in terms of structure,class,and unit.Structure-shifts include the shifts between active and passive voice,affirmation and negation,and shifts between personal pronouns.Class-shifts mainly refer to the shifts of part-of-speech.Unit-shifts include the shifts between phrases and words and those between clauses and phrases.The above shifts start from the perspective of accurate semantic communication,combined with the differences in expressions between the source language and the target language,and pay full attention to the reading and expression habits of the target language readers,so as to achieve precise,clear and fluent information transmission in the translation.This translation practice has strengthened the author’s learning of knowledge in the field of flame retardancy,deepened the author’s understanding and recognition of translation theory,and honed the author’s translation skills,which has practical guidance significance for the author’s future work and life.At the same time,this translation practice has also made the author realize the shortcomings of her translation abilities,which has pointed out the direction for the author’s future translation work.
